With no updates there for a month, I think it's about time to ditch the NFO's section, or at least direct instantly to the forum.

>:O I just had no fucking time because I was moving and we are still not settled in. It's actually really easy to maintain, just takes ~5-20 minutes each day. But now that we have a huge backlog it's of course a big load of work

just make the front page go right into the forums?
Maybe create a NFO section in the forums then instead?

I myself have been a bit lazy about updating. Going to do some now, there are 1000 .nfo's to go through at the moment.
People from the forums can apply to be updaters. It's really quite simple to do. I hope I am allowed to post this, I don't see why not. Here is a screenshot of the updating tool:

I'm one of the uploaders too, lost the tools and tbh, not that interested in uploading nfos anymore. I really doubt anyone is actually reading them anyway. At least make nfohump.com go directly to the forum please.

Hello peeps
I've been thinking about this. Its been eating at me for a while. Good steady updaters are hard to come by in the times we are in now. So first hats off to Nalo, Syco, the sadly missing Spaz and now Newt for sacrificing their time and updating the site. Thanks guys!
For some time now I have been thinking of abandoning the traditional NFOrce style of updating - The releases are pretty well gift-wrapped - we tagg'em and put in all the review and official links, imdb, etc.. The shear volume of NFOs that crop up every day, "taxing" each one at the border by an updater is a bigger and bigger burdon. We just cannot keep up with sites that just dump the prelists and copy&paste them into their front page.
So I have to make a decision. Either cut down on some sections, like TV and update only hit shows and keep the current style of updating, but that would gape a large hole in our decade long archives, which is not acceptable. Or join the club and do like the others are, dumping indexes at the front page.
Although I have been thinking of a hybrid NFOrce-style approach. By indexing most of the NFOs we could keep the Games area NFOrce style, possibly even incorporate landing pages for high-profile games that would be fully moderated. It would shelter game summary, screenshots, gameplay videos (user-made?), game tips, forum-linked discussion, short game reviews...
Well, something I pondered about.. Leave me your feedback. I'm curious what you people think.
Thanks.

Automated nfo uploading wouldn't be that bad IF there are some proper filters in place.
It would be pretty great if we can actually create reviews of shows/episodes/games in general where one could add content to a certain game. Maybe have some top 5 of the day/week/month for example.

Hi mrt,
Landing pages sound great. Possibly a good method of influxing traffic toward the forum section.
Regarding NFO updating, can't a script be created to automatically pull data from imdb, cine21, thetvdb, like Plex, XBMC, etc. do? For games it would be more difficult, so it can be as you say, keep it manual. But movies and TV shows I think can be automated. I think all of the data can be found on the datasources I mentioned above.
Thanks

There are also several databases to fetch game information from, I have a script somewhere that fetched decent data from games. I think it linked to gamespot and a few other sites.
I think it would be really nice if you could link a release to the forum thread for example.

I cannot commit to a full development cycle, but I can help as needed and as free time permits me. For instance, I am willing to take a look at a Tapatalk integration as well as possible forum upgrade.

Would be nice if we could add user ratings, screenshots, reviews, maybe even postprocessing settings or recommended Mods... Pretty much what happens in the forum but then you'd have a quick access to it and it not getting buried under the discussion.
That is just me dreaming out loud tho

@MORPHINEUS I am not sure about that. I prefer integrating the forum and NFO section. Otherwise, splitting the content would hurt both NFO section and forum section. People would either post here or there, creating a lackluster experience on both sections. If they are integrated (the NFO section serving as an information portal for the forum), it would drive more people to the forum, and all the content would be in the same place.

I'd be interested in knowing what sources it uses. Do you have it laying around somewhere?

Indeed. That would be the smart-thing® to do.
One thing that needs to be dealt with if this is going to happen. And it is about time, too.
The webpage needs a make-over. A fresh design with all those things planned for.
Anyone up for the job?
Who knows where this might take us. Maybe even to a forum upgrade |
I don't have the script at my usual PC anymore I think. I'll try to remember to take a look at it the weekend to see if I can dig it up somewhere. I'm pretty sure it's with my other tcl scripts.

Would be great if the forums finally get an overhaul, but (if possible) I wouldn't revolutionize the classic old-style look too much, it makes this place really unique

Nice
As long as the sacred Nforce essence is preserved, I'm all in when it comes to modernize things and add new useful features, and I know that we're in good hands.
Just don't exaggerate with the hidden goatses and meatspin easter eggs

I invisioned the landing pages to be a sort of anchor place for solid content and facts, tips. Definatley reviews, full-fledged or byte-sized? probably the latter. Basic game information followed along-side with short'n'sweet solutions to technical problems, gameplay advice, walkthru's and cheats/secrets etc... all pulled out of forum topics and fine-combed over before put on display.
Discussions would lead to a topic directly on the forum. Possibly, if topics would be rated or if they were quite oftenly moderated, but probably they'll just be picked out by random, some could be picked out and displayed to draw people into the discussion.
A social aspect would be created around each game aswell. You would be able to tag the game as "I Completed it", or "I'm playing it now" so we could see which games are currently buzzing. Possibly integrate it somehow with the humps facebook page or something.
A rating system would be put in place, although the byte-sized reviews would really take care of that. Then we would could build TOP-charts and so on.
Many ideas. They still need to get weeded through.
But, we really need some web designers to jump into the frey to perk up the graphics. Anyone? Anybody? You?

Actually Facebook and Twitter integration is important. The more people "share", the more crowd it brings. There should definitely be share widget buttons so people can freely advertise NFOHump. Like it or not, this is where the internet is blowing.
