IGN Ratings for Ghostbusters: The Video Game (X360)
7.5 Presentation
The game plays like the third movie in the way it opens and is presented to fans, but some scenes need work. There are moments that don't fit here and there, but overall, it's sweet.
7.5 Graphics
The proton streams look great, the ghosts are detailed, and the CG cutscenes rock; but the in-game cutscenes are rough, there's screen-tearing and some aliasing issues.
8.0 Sound
The voices make the experience, but I wish Murray didn't sound like he was doing an impression of Venkman. The original music is nice, but it's used a bit too much.
8.0 Gameplay
Who doesn't love tearing apart ballrooms and libraries with a Proton Pack? The Meson Collider's worthless, but it's fun to wrangle ghosts into traps.
8.0 Lasting Appeal
A playthrough should take about eight hours, however, there are hidden artifacts to go back for and the multiplayer is actually a lot of fun for ghostheads.
8.0
Impressive OVERALL
(out of 10 / not an average)

Unfortunately that seems to be the norm for action games these days
Funny feeling its going to be region locked if they are doing the ps3 exclusive in Europe

I suspect you're right but no idea on the contract between sony and developer. Sony have distrubution rights on all platforms across Europe so there may be a high chance they are purely doing a PS3 exclusive due to them having sole distrubution rather than some fancy contract. Even when the xbox version comes out, its Sony distrubuting it then (I think)

No it wouldn't.
Sony didn't pick up a timed exclusive as such. There was no timed deal between Atari and Sony. Atari wanted to delay European launch (on all platforms) due to distrubution issues (amongst other things). What with it being the 25th Anniversity of Ghostbusters, Sony didn't want this to happen therefore picked up all PAL distrubution rights. This is because, or partly, Sony are pumping money into Bluray editions of the film, toys, etc and therefore a lack of game in PAL territories would be an arse.
For those really interested in the whole thing, there was an article posted on GBFans which is as follows...
Spoiler: | Many fans are upset over the information that has been released about the delay of Ghostbusters the Video Game in Europe and Australia. Some of the news is misguided and many are seeing it as a way for Sony to monopolize the Ghostbusters game. Let me say that all gaming markets will be getting Ghostbusters on all major platforms . As noted in the GamesIndustry article Atari has been in a financially unstable situation and that is why they were bought out by Infogrames. They do not have the resources to do a world wide launch of Ghostbusters the Video game in all markets simultaneously.
Instead of pulling off a poor launch everywhere in June 2009, they decided to focus their time, money and resources to North America only... delaying Ghostbusters the Video Game in all PAL markets (I am not sure if Japan is affected). This is purely because of Atari.. they would rather delay the release in order to give Europe and AU the proper release that it deserves at a later date.
Now where the confusion comes in is that Sony has decided to pick up the pieces and release the game AS PLANNED on June 19th. This is because they have invested millions of dollars in getting a huge 25th Anniversary release going. That includes the Video Game, Blu-Ray, Mattel Toys, Minimates, Comics, T-Shirts.. everything. They could not let Atari drop the ball when they have so much riding on this. So what Sony did was step up and decide to release the game on PS2 and PS3 only in June in Europe and Australia. (North America is getting all platforms released from Atari on June 16th). This is not some
diabolical plot to make PS3's sell more units like many are making it out to be. It is purely Sony doing its best to get what it can out there early for fans.
This isn't so disappointing. This delay will give Atari time to collect money and resources to give Europe and AU the Ghostbusters release it deserves for XBox 360, Wii, PC and DS. Rather than get a trickle of games and wide spread unavailability or support. Atari is going to give everyone else a great launch for the video game this fall. So for everyone in the UK, this means that you guys will have to wait a little longer to get the game on Xbox's and Wii's, but it will be worth the wait. |
