I might urge people to try out Morrowind again, theres some very nice mods for that game as well both look and feel and gameplay wise. Not to mention with some Graphics Extender it looks very good for such an old game.

Are there any modded "super packs" sort-of-speak for Morrowind like there are for Oblivion (eg., like OOO or the like)? I'd be interested in playing Morrowind once again, but would like a big bundled mod pack.

Afaik nothing in the scale of FCOM etc. - pity really, since there's a massive amount of smaller mods that don't really conflict with each other but the actual process of trying to find still working links, downloading them all and then sorting them into proper loading order is a major hassle.

Of course, unlike Oblivion which was teh crap in its vanilla form, Morrowind is actually pretty decent straight out of the box, so you could just grab the graphic enhancers and have a go at it. Might just do that, myself.

Me and a friend have agreed to reinstall the game once he gets back from his vacation next month.

Did they ever finish any of those Rebuilt mods?

Well back to Telesphoros.

I used to play it on a P4 2.4, 1gb RAM, and a 9800pro, and back then it was a stutterfest once all those mods were running.

Morrowind may be rough around the edges, but man, it took like 3 years of my life. Oblivion didn't even last me a month. :/

Be a pal and torrent the whole data folder once you're done, eh AKofC? Very Happy

I think the Tamriel Rebuilt team put out 2(?) maps so far, but the quests etc. aren't finished yet.

Epsilon, do you use this Morrowind Code Patch?

Last time I played that wasn't available yet, but judging by the release notes that seems like a must have for anyone thinking of playing Morrowind now.

That list seems to have all the most popular & known mods and then some, not a bad place to start. Smile (excluding AlienSlof's mods - she removed them and you can't find them anymore on any site - you'd need to have someone share them to you).

Yes I have it patched with the code patch 1.2, all the alienslof mods are there as well, they're all integrated into the goth shop.
The only bug I've been able to find from this compilation thus far is a missing mesh near the kids playground in the "Children of Morrowind" mod and I've been all over the world now looking for errors, with cheating of course.
It's all been mashed up as well so there should be a minimal amount of bugs or errors, it's been running now for 8 hours without crashing and as I said, been all over the world with that character.

Looks great considering it's age, MGE and similar addons really improve things though, there's also a ton of other addons such as guilds, quests, landmasses and other stuff. Smile

Haven't played it in a while and might replay it, first however I must finish what's left of Arena and then Daggerfall. Very Happy
(Been stuck in Battlespire as well but it also runs pretty bad.)

(Also going trough Oblivion again with a few mods, lots of stuff to do, hehe.)

Oh and I guess you're using the latest SVN version of MGE and not the older 2.8.0 version or what it's called as it has some extra functions and improvements.

I recently went back to Morrowind, and have spent some time collecting back a plethora of new and old Mods, since some of them are no longer easily available.

The good thing is that there are new developments right now quite promising (new highly detailed roads, skies, a program to incorporate voices for certain conversations, more animations, new shaders, etc).

And there are excellent recent guides for those that have never played such gem, or don't want to spend long time searching for the most popular mods:

http://morrowind2009.wordpress.com/ --> Complete guide, that works with Vista as well. Highly suggest to start with this one.

http://www.bethsoft.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=956115&st=0 -->
A follow up, that provides alternatives based on the link above.

http://www.bethsoft.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=977252 --> "Wall of Mods", another new great list, still in the works.

Will never cease to amaze me how, despite all the years since TES III was released, the community still has such fondness and dedication for such game.

Is there any mods that help improve the melee combat as I seem to remember that being terrible and it putting me off the game so I never did finish it, lol.

The melee combat was nothing special, but it wasn't that bad either. Just click and let the 'dices' roll. Setting up Oblivion properly cost me hours, I really can't be arsed with this one now Sad.

Morrowind is the ultimate Bethesda style RPG. The sheer scale of things as well as the extremely thought out mythology (just check out the books and the whole canon of deities, history, background etc.) makes this my all-time fave RPG.

Yep I compiled the latest svn of MGE before getting it setup, I also used that guide on wordpress Augury linked to, to get it all setup nice with the best mods.
And concerning books theres a very nice book mod I use that allows you to look and see what the book is called ie "Book Jackets"

Since the old thread got locked i'll continue here:

Quote:

Even vanilla looks much better. Smile The mods adds some fancy shader post-processing effects, like depth of field, bloom, water reflection and refraction, but the fundamentals are still there - blocky characters and architecture as a result of low poly models.

Most meshes are new for Morrowind now, you're blind if you cant see that, they arent any lower than Oblivion.. i just found new hair and head meshes that i hadnt installed so now it will look even better Smile

Oblivion also has far more pop-ups of large objects (on highest possible settings) than my modded Morrowind (that has zero pop-ups).

i think the graphics beats Oblivion (even modded), but it isnt strange since Morrowind has been modded and added to since 2002. The water is especially good now, not even an modded Oblivion give you that kind of water. Most importantly though the setting in Morrowind is just so much more interesting than Oblivion (that is basicly just a big forrest) + its bigger.

Oblivion is great too though (spent hundreds of hours with it), but it reminds me (graphically) too much about those really generic looking Tiger Woods games, its has something very artificial too it graphically, it looks "nice" sure, but totally generic.

That is fairly easy to improve in Oblivion even by modifying the .cfg files yourself. Not only can you completely eliminate pop-up in the cell you're in, you can have it load up as many surrounding cells as your RAM can handle.

Personally I far prefer the more lush environment of Oblivion to Morrowinds ash desert, although Morrowind does have a few nice areas.

Ash desert? it now has fully animated grass, new, lush trees. It has lots of _different_ areas that's whats nice with Morrowind, it really feels like you travel to different continents, this makes it feel vastly bigger than running around in the "big" forrest in Oblivion...

And no, you can not get rid of the pop-ups even if you edit the ini file. Editing uGridsToLoad will create a lot of bugs with the game, graphically and many other kinds of bugs (this was discovered like ~1 day after release.)

There's a mod though called "MTAEVWD (More than almost everything visible when distant)" which is the most demanding version of the mod. This is the only way to make things visible even at distance, but is extremely demanding.. Try using that mod with the Open cities mod + you probably want to install at least 10-20 more to fix other stuff..

Morrowind has a huge number of different areas and cultures, that's what i love about it, the cities are open too, no need for loading screens. I've modded Oblivion to death since release, but it's stil not on pair with a heavily modified Morrowind, and now not even graphics wise. Will be nice to have god rays soon Smile

Now I suddenly remember I have an umber-modded version of Morrowind laying on my HD somewhere. I bet I should give it another go, too bad the framerate went down the toilet due to the massive amount of mods.

Also, I highly suggest trying (among the others) Lothavor's Legacy. It's an amazing quest mod which reminded me of Ultima VII (no i'm not joking) due to the amount of dialogues, interactivity and quality of writing. Not to mention there are lots of choices and consequences depending on how you behave with the few (but very well made) NPCs and multiple resolutions to quests. Two thumbs up.

Also, I'd like to try some French mods (in particular NovaMagica, which looks like an awesome overhaul of the Mages Guild), but unfortunately opening it up with TES construction editor brought some errors with the cell names (because the plugin made references to translated cells not available in the eng version). Is there a workaround for this?
