haha, I also thought about Gothic II (plus its Addon) the very first moment I read the topic of this thread.
Generally I'd say it's Thief, System Shock 2 and Gothic 2 (+Addon) for me.

Heh, another one of those threads.
The best game I've ever played is: Deus Ex.
This game is simply amazing! Each time I'm finishing it, I discover new places and secrets, plus the freedom is priceless.

If I had to choose a PC game it would have to be Everquest... but over all it would be Chrono Trigger, Perfection.

Fallout 1\2.
Actually, depending on my mood, it generally alters between Fallout 1\2 (which I include as one because they are practically one game), Planescape: Torment, Deus Ex, and Baldur's Gate 1\2 (see Fallout).

For me it'll most probably be Final Fantasy 7 for pc. It stole many months of my life . I also love Baldurs Gate (both parts), Fallout (also both parts). Oh and Gothic 2 of course. But still the best for me is FF7.

Well hard choice.
Everyone said PC game but since you don't specify I will say FF3 on SNES.

Man this is a tough one.
My first ever game on PC was Sid Mier's Civilization for Windows 3.1, and I've been a gamer ever since.
I can't really pick one, but I've narrowed it down to 3:
Deus Ex (Original)
Everquest (During the first two two years of release, went to shit after Kunark).
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
The last one may seem a little lame I know. Just to clarify, I have never seen a complete SW film, just bits and pieces. Ergo, I am not a SW freak.
However, during my first playthrough of KotOR, I was in awe. The story was great, the combat/character system was effective, and the character development (plot wise and audio wise) was also damn good.
Therefore, SW:KotOR beat out Mafia (albeit narrowly), for that spot (only because gameplay wise, Mafia was very slow at times).
Edit: Forgot to include Diablo (Original), in the list, shame on me. During its hayday, nothing came close to it. Guess that brings it up to four then, heh.

So many great games. Half-Life, Metal Gear Solid, Deus Ex, Fallout 1 & 2, Monkey Island Series, Mafia, Max Payne 1 & 2, Operation: Flashpoint, etc. Just keeps going. If I had to choose one it would be Half-Life. Never got sick of the game.

Hard to pick just one. For me the best ones are Ultima 5 (on my old Commodore C128D, the version was enhanced with better sounds), Duke Nukem 3D, Mafia and the GTA Series.

There are a few games i've really enjoyed over the past years, but I have to say Morrowind.
That game totally surprised me and I got almost addictied to it, playing almost everyday 5-6 hours a day.
I hadent played a game like that which gave you that much freedom, Deus Ex coming close but it had other flaws.
Hope there will be a new Elder Scrolls game out soon...

Do you mean for its time?
If yes then its differnetly North and South for the Amiga. WOW that was fun.
A more recent game might be warcraft III. I dont mean standard (I dont think its that good) but all those maps/mods you can play...

Ghostbusters on the C64. If you pressed spacebar during the intro a computer voice said "Ghostbusters" I thought that was the coolest thing ever.
Best game ever played after I knew what I was doing has to be...Deus ex.
