I work for a distributor of games here in europe, and so far the word from Activision who will be handling the distribution to localized distributors such as the one i work for, is that they are shooting for a multiple world release like various blizzard games in the past, they also said that doom 3 was "silently" gold and should arrive at stores around the world ready for release at the 14th of june, though in nordic countries it may be 2 days late the 16th of june.
Use this information as you see fit, but as an avid doom freak myself i would imagine knowing this "cools down" alot of doom freaks such as myself.

I just find it a bit strange that they wouldn't have announced it if it was a rock solid release date. Surely they would want as many people as possible to know that it was finally going to be available. Only time will tell though.

maybe they wanna surprise people. They've kept most parts of the game a secret anyway, so i wouldnt be surprised if it was true.

also if its true they could start hitting us with adverts on or around the 11th / 12th of june.
Cant see it myself though, as said above I would have thought it would have a massive advertising campain.

adverts on the 12th during the EURO 2004 tournament? probably a lot of people, if not record numbers, watching their box at this time and will probably be mostly the prime audience.
But I find the silence of it, given the above guy knows a bit strange.. still we will see - if they pull this off it will be a great move I think, just in my experience companies like as much hype before release :confused:

One can't help being sceptical but if Activision can get the discs pressed and distributed in time then all credit to them, a suprise release is a clever advertising campaign on its own.
All being well we should see a scene release before or shortly after the store date then, providing ID choose not to use commercial protection on the media; starforce, securom etc as they did with RTCW. IMO, serial protection is sufficient, especially with DOOM III, people will buy it regardless. I know i will.

Personally I'd wait for a demo or try the full release before buying it, I don't have enough faith in the game itself as I'm not a strict shooter fan - but if it's innovative in gameplay as well as graphical, then fair enough.

Its coming out round July 14th. You can pre-order already, and it gives the date there....
They gave me a box and a figurine...
