Prepare for 2K amount of DLCs and other casino content. Hopefully I’m wrong.

they had the setting and time period correct in 3 too, the problam was that in the middle of the game it turns into an ubisoft ghost recon formula, but beginning and ending was very well done
they had the same setting and time period for 1 remake and that was a boring game, so those are the least of their problems..

It sounds intriguing but...Hangarsoft 13

It needs shooting mechanics without giant console crosshairs, without the feeling of a Saints Row game, and proper driving mechanics. That would just about seal the deal! |
Exactly. I can accept that a certain amount of consolitis is inevitable given the multiplatform nature of modern tripeA games, however, their efforts so far have been particularly jarring to me in that regard. Whether it's the lack of proper physics or the UI made for Dorito bros, I couldn't even enjoy the core elements of their previous titles. And this is without mentioning the actual structure of "Mafia" 3
So yeah, I might be a bit curious but that's about it. Too many red flags

I'm gonna say something pretty unpopular. Mafia 3 is actually pretty good. Caveat-- if you just load it up and play it straight, no, it's a 4/10 kinda game. But, if you just apply 1 mod from Nexus (removing the grind of the racket damage), it will cut out hours upon hours of repetitive boring gameplay and let you focus on the good stuff. And there is plenty of good stuff. Absolutely turns it into 8/10 IMO.
(BTW, Mafia 1 is 10/10 for me.)

Bit off topic, but has there ever been a Mafia game where you could actually spend your ill gotten gains outside of a pre-scripted cinematic? Don't get me wrong, I love the Mafia series, but I wish they'd inject a bit of those old Godfather games into them for a business/asset management side.
It'd be neat to buy a bunch of useless gaudy shit, build up a mansion, put some impoverished local village back on the map and be celebrated as their hero, and then retire peacefully on some non-extradition island to do lines of coke off hooker's asses into our golden years.
I'm a bit tired of the trope where we play as nobody's working our way up, only to ultimately meet some untimely demise so that the developer can spout the "Crime's bad...mmm' kay?" message - why can't we be the guy that actually makes it for once without the tragic ending?

I hope the team sobered up a bit since Mafia 3. It was so frustrating reading their stances and what priorities they had when Making Mafia 3. They were more interested in shoving the race card in players faces instead of working the actual mechanics or AI. It was absolutely wild to read that the studio and game director was content with having just an ok action game and AI and combat as long as they had shop npc's react to the avatar being black "correctly".
GamesBeat: This feels a bit like interviewing a novelist after you’ve read a novel. How do you feel about how the game turned out, as far as the reception and feedback that’s come your way?
On the one hand, we’re a little disappointed by some of the reactions to the gameplay loops and the weight that was applied to some of the bugs in the game. But the flip side is that we made a lot of decisions in development to double down on the experience of being Lincoln and exploring his story. Sometimes that came at the expense of other things. The fact that the story and that experience we created, Lincoln in the south in 1968, that has resonated. We’ve seen a lot of good write-ups around that, and that’s made us happy with the choices we made along the way.
[..]
The other example we call out — at a certain point in time we had to make a decision, like all games do, about where you put people. We don’t have an unlimited amount of time or money or personnel. You have to make hard choices. Do we keep working on this feature? Do we work on that instead?
Because the interaction between Lincoln and the world was so important to us, at a certain point we decided we were going to double down on things like the shopkeepers, making sure they reacted to you when you came into their stores. Some of them were going to react based on your race. Same with the police, the police being able to watch you as you move around the world and give you that sense that they’ve got their eye on you. We thought that was very important to the experience.
Those things came at the expense of some of our AI in combat, for example. My argument there was, if you want to play a great cover shooter there are 50 or 60 of those out on the market to go play. We’re a competent cover shooter, but we weren’t trying to be best in class. We were trying to make sure it was entertaining and fun. But we were taking the people who would have been working to make that better and putting them on these other features to immerse you in the time and place and remind you of who Lincoln is.
Hindsight is 20/20. It’s hard to know what could have happened if we invested more in the cover AI, if that would have made a difference in the review scores, but I feel like—had we not invested in shopkeepers and police behaviors and some of the other stuff Bill mentioned, we wouldn’t have captured this very unique experience that you can’t get anywhere else.

Mafia 3 does exactly that.

I mean, it kinda did, but not really to any scope that mattered. And it took the lazy Ubisoft approach of "do the exact same thing (in that case, clear the enemies from the square bit of land), 10,000 times".
Been a long time since I've played it though, might have to go look again.

Quote: | Authenticity is at the heart of the Mafia franchise, and Mafia: The Old Country will offer voice acting in Sicilian, inline with the game's setting in 1900s Sicily. Additionally, Italian language localization will be available for both in-game UI and via subtitles. |

Sicilian-speaking actors already voiced most characters in the Mafia Remake (IT version) so they'll probably reuse those, like they reused Mafia 3's assets and arcade mechanics
