|
 |
Quote: | Microsoft’s next-generation Xbox is officially called Xbox Series X. Microsoft revealed the name and console design on stage at the Game Awards today. The console itself looks far more like a PC than we’ve seen from previous Xbox consoles, and Microsoft’s trailer provides a brief glimpse at the new design.
The Xbox Series X will include a custom-designed CPU based on AMD’s Zen 2 and Radeon RDNA architecture. Microsoft is also using an SSD on Xbox Series X, which promises to boost load times. Xbox Series X will also support 8K gaming, frame rates of up to 120 fps in games, ray tracing, and variable refresh rate support.
Microsoft also revealed a new Xbox Wireless Controller today. “Its size and shape have been refined to accommodate an even wider range of people, and it also features a new Share button to make capturing screenshots and game clips simple,” explains Spencer. This updated controller will work with existing Xbox One consoles and Windows 10 PCs, and will ship with every Xbox Series X.
Microsoft’s Xbox Series X console will also include Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) and Dynamic Latency Input (DLI) that will “make Xbox Series X the most responsive console ever.” Spencer says the Series X is “designed for a future in the cloud,” and it will combine hardware and software to “make it as easy as possible to bring great games to both console and elsewhere.” |

What a shitty name and the look invokes shouting 'alexa' at it.

"supports 60 FPS" sure it does. Every console in existence supports it, if you make the game non graphical intensive there's no problem reaching even 1000 FPS.. the problem is of course they have no interest in 60 FPS because it doesn't sell games, graphics does. It's the same with AI, no one cares as long as the graphics is aMaZeBaLLs!
So in the end we'll have 30* FPS, 4K, better graphics than current gen, same dumb games.
*23-30 FPS

Don't see how it matters given they have no games worth buying an xbox over.

So no new controller, that's good, I was already expecting I have to wait for a new, revolutionary iteration. It's time to replace my old gamepad anyway, left thumbstick has some serious stick drift.
Probably gonna get the Elite Series 2 early next year but gonna wait for a good deal and it's currently sold out everywhere it seems.

Design is gross.
A tower. Console gaming is meant to take up little space to compete with a hunking pc. If the future of console gaming is towers... That'll just look ugly in the living room. Just make it wider and smaller. Christ.
Edit. 8k visuals = 8k bluray movies. End of Gen will get 1 or 2 games that'll support 8k. I hope the next playstation isn't a hunking piece of metal as well.

The "take up little space" doesn't particularly adhere to thermodynamic physics.

This is my point about it hopefully having better cooling, I'd rather have a boxy speaker looking thing that doesn't overheat and die, than something tiny and compact like a VCR that screams with a loud inadequate fan >_>

Plot twist: What if you get both in one package? :O

That would be ideal, naturally, but as Leo rightly pointed out; tiny packages are rarely conducive to quiet/cool thermals :\ I'd rather my PS4 was twice its size if it meant having a better cooling system that doesn't scream like a literal turbine whenever it starts heating up -- and this is with an ultra low power laptop-class low-frequency CPU too.

It can be seen anywhere. The thinner a machine gets (e.g. laptops), the more thermal throttling it does. I don't see a reason why we should have that in a modern console.
Thermal dissipation requires 3D space. You cannot make a flat platter and expect it to be as effecting as a tall heat sink.
Also, most likely it will be possible to put that box horizontally. By the looks of it, it is ~ as wide as an Xbox controller, so it should fit almost any TV furniture.
