So this is pretty awesome and glad they decided to impliment this especially since Unepic never made it to steam since it was denied. Now we have a bigger voice. I can also see multiple threads being made about different games related to Greenlight so here's the official page for it.

Quote:
We may not be the bigshot in the executive leather chair who gets to decide which games are made and which get dumped, but we can now at least have a say in which get on the Steam store. Which is essentially the same thing to that weird and confusing small number of people who only buy games on Steam. Valve today launched Steam Greenlight, letting user votes decide which games get on Steam.

In the case of unEpic, Valve still has final veto power don't they? Even if 10,000 people vote "Yes!" to putting a Greenlight title on the Steam marketplace, Valve can still say no Sad I really do hope unEpic gets put on Greenlight and I hope it makes it, I really do, the game is marvellous and now that the "infringing" elements have been altered and/or renamed, let's hope it actually sticks this time!

Sadly I think Valve needs to start handing out some seriously harsh penalties to people abusing the service. Already people are "adding" games that they don't own, or games that don't exist, or even racist and offensive bullshit ... and all Valve does, at the moment, is simply delete the submission when people report it. I really think they need to start sending out a message that abusing the service won't be tolerated, I'd personally ban abusers from accessing or using the Greenlight service. It's also incredibly irritating to read posts from people who whine about the graphics or controls of certain titles, down voting games for the most petty and childish of reasons :\ If you don't like a game, move on, but actively down voting because you dislike the art style? That's just wrong and it's really going to be a huge detriment to people getting their games on Steam.

Well it's new bud. Valve is valve, you know they aren't going to tolerate it as well as there being a report button so it'll be taken care of.

I'm just getting old mate, the childish trolling is just irritating and I don't see the "lulz" side of it. Oh well.

Anyhow, here's a sombering thought

Project Zomboid. Only 4% of the required positive votes obtained so far, despite being favourite'd almost six thousand times -- and god knows how many upvotes from people that didn't favourite? Wow. I reckon Greenlight is going to be one hell of a slog for indie devs.

Yeah, that's what happened and - like I said - the dev behind unEpic has already complied. He altered the text and the graphics of the infringing items. I hope it's enough to satisfy Valve.

Also this greenlight thing is pretty fun, right now I'm downvoting all pixel art games, it would be awesome if somehow my vote mattered and they stopped getting made

Why? What possible purpose does that serve?

His own personal opinion that he hates pixel art games. Which is what greenlight is about, people voting what they want on Steam. I think it's personally stupid but who am I say to say what he's allowed to vote for and not.

Yeah.. I haven't seen anything above 5%. They either have it set way too high or nobody's actually voting.

I also don't see downvoting actually working when you have tards like this:

Personally I think that Gemini Rue wouldn't be as good in any graphic style other than pixel art, and Gemini Rue is probably in my top 5 adventure games ever made.

Why? Because we're passed that era long ago, pixel art for pixel art's sake is just lazy development.

Indie development isn't about making games pretty and attractive. It has nothing to do with being lazy. It has all to do with time constraint on a team that only has few people who want to see their game see light of day. Instead of graphics to lead in the mindless zombies of gaming, they choose innovation and gameplay. Sales speak for themselves, Terraria, Starbound (coming soon) Minecraft. You don't need graphics for an awesome game to be awesome which is why I support so many of these pixel art games.

However that's my opinion and I'll upvote every pixel art game I see to counter your downvote.

And this, this so effing hard that it hurts my brain. Gemni Rue was fucking awesome. Update the graphics? It wouldn't have been as pleasing.

I didn't say what he was allowed to do, I just think deliberately and actively seeking out titles to downvote is .... meh.. it's fucking pointless.

Frayed Knights is real - RampantCoyote is one of the primary devs at Rampant Games.
Underrail is real - the real developer added the game himself, there was an earlier one that was fake.
Inquisitor is real -- Luka Makura is primary dev.
The Real Texas is real -- psysal is primary dev.

but yeah, this downvote stuff is something I never got my head around when Valve announced it. It only takes one 4chan/Reddit invasion to ruin a game's chances of being posted on Steam.. and for what? Lulz. A bunch of immature brats that are bored and just want to fuck with people Rolling Eyes

"I don't like this game so I don't want it on Steam."

The fuck? If you don't like it, ignore it! There are thousands of games on Steam that I don't like, so I ignore them.

~edit~

Amended my "Underrail" post. A version was added earlier today that was fake, the one you linked to is the real one. Sorry about that Smile

Well, I'm sure Valve is keeping an eye on this. They aren't dumb. Gabe is a nerd and a computer nerd at that. He knows about 4chan and reddit. He knows what's at stake. I highly doubt he'll take trolling lightly.

Especially since you have to be logged in to vote.

Shoshomiga wrote:

But they do attract the mindless zombies called hipsters, thats all pixel art is its a way to attract hipsters who would say 2deep4u when someone points out the games are shit.

Ah so I'm a hipster because I'm not dumb enough to fall for pretty graphics. Some of us like story and gameplay over developers spending 4 years working on graphics because that's all people want anymore.

That's ok though, we have enough games to cover everyone's style. Go play Crysis.

Actually they already started banning people, only 1 day bans so far, but probably with repeated offences people will be banned forever.

I hadn't noticed because garus' extension automatically resizes the image to fit the page Smile

No excuses. It's way too big.

sabin1981 wrote:
Valve really needs to add an option to filter out titles you've already rated/etc, since browsing that collection is going to be a NIGHTMARE once it starts getting more popular. 3 pages of games earlier... now, 2 hours later, SEVEN pages of games.

Not sure if it's something they hacked together after you posted that, but on the right there actually are tabs called "games to rate" and "games you've rated".

Yeah, that was always there but Games to Rate still shows up with games I've already rated. That and, bizarrely, items never seem to stay in the same position - which makes browsing the pages a right chore. A game you see on page 1, for example, will pop up again on page 3 and again on page 5.

Oh and garus' extension definitely isn't an excuse.. everyone should have it! At least until the forum can have an auto image resizer built in Very Happy

Yeah. The whole UI needs work. However in my case, the only game I rated so far, Syder Arcade, does not show up in "games to rate" list anymore.

Either way, I love this whole concept. Good for the devs and great for me. It's really fun looking through the list searching for gems I would otherwise never hear of. Reminds me of the first time XBLA added community games, or whatever they call them.

Down voting is good for Valve, it shows them games that people definitely won't buy.
