That worked but I still get random looping sound effects then the game crashes.

I solved that problem by setting cpu clock to it original value.

disconnecting the internet won't work for me either Sad ... tried starforce cleaner too

Have you disconnect all optical drives or disable appropriate IDE channel in BIOS?
This method works for me, ...
