I tried googling but couldn't find anything specific to a "free" version of windows 8.

What do you think the odds are if I just swap out my MB/CPU that windows 8 will still boot up/be OK?

not sure if this stuff matters, but ...

New MB has Q67 chipset, CPU is i5-2500 @ 3.30 GHz (socket 1155)
Old MB has H57 chipset, CPU is i3-550 @ 3.2 GHz (socket 1156)

I really would like to save myself the headache of a complete re-install. found this stuff really cheap at an auction so hoping it also solves my previous RAM problem...

Can be done, but I wouldn't recommend it. It's probably gonna cause certain headaches down the line. Also, Windows will need activated again, free or legit Wink

after a little playing around with it I think I'm going to try and get the new box up and running on its own with a new install before I do anything...

My bro just grabbed one of these from his work for free (auction company) which is where this came from, but should probably make sure everything is working OK before I start combining parts.

edit: ahh fuck, the power supply in the computer won't work with my video cards, and it looks like my current power supply might not be compatible with the MB that looks like this

power supply from old computer is this one: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=899123

unless you will get bsod, then i'd suggest doing back up with acronis and restoring it with Acronis Universal Restore
