I don't wanna re-open another topic for this so i'm asking here
Nearly 2 years has passed since the last post and i bet there are much better alternatives than FRAPS for good or bad reasons
I'm looking for:
-Configure the program so i can choose if i want my Logitech USB Headset to record the voice the same moment i record the game with a button at the same time...or to disable any mic/headset option but record in-game sound
-Screenshots
-Choose where to save screenshots and movies
-Configure Capture method quality or whatever..
Anything better than fraps? ...
ASUS X570 TUF GAMING PLUS, 32GB DDR4@2666 ,RYZEN 5800X3D (NO OC),GIGABYTE RTX 4070 Super GAMING OC, Western Digital Blue 4TB 5400RPM + SAMSUNG 860 EVO 500+1TB GB SSDs , OEM SATA DVD 22xNoctua NH-D15 Chromax Black, BenQ XL2420T Case: Be Quiet! DARK BASE PRO 901. PSU CORSAIR RM1200 SHIFT
MSI Afterburner all the way, especially with h264 to control the file size of recorded movies, also has a few sound options you can mess with as well to include/exclude voice chat
| BenQ XL2420T 24" 120Hz | Ducky Shine III 9008 White LED - Brown MX | Logitech G9x |
| Corsair Carbide 400R | Asus Sabertooth z77 | i7 3770K @ 4.3Ghz - 1.200v | CM Hyper 212 Evo - Push/Pull |
| SLI eVGA 4GB GTX980 ACX SC | Vengeance 16GB RAM 1600 DDR3 | AX850w PSU | Samsung 840Pro 128GB SSD | WD Black 1TB HD |
dxtory is my preference
i used it to record dayz sessions, and is used by most youtubers
it has push to talk voice recording enabling and it records the mic into a separate voice track you can mix in later
i think h264 is a bad idea for compression, especially at high resolutions since it requires a large cpu overhead, and is slow for editing.
it is fine though if you have a very powerful machine and don't play something like arma that bites a big chunk of that
I use an mjpeg codec
every frame is a keyframe so it's fast to edit, and it's a jpeg so it's fast to save
i actually haven't tried msi afterburner, but it gets mentioned so often that it's clearly worth a look
Soon Nvidia Shadowplay should be released, its gonna be awesome (only around 5% fps hit). It does encode videos with cuda, so GPU does all the job. Requires Nvidia GPU tho.

That's gonna be more than a 5% hit if it records at a decent bitrate all the time, *especially* on GK104 with its terrible compute performance
CUDA encoding was pretty crap quality wise so far, if I recall correctly, but I am curious about how this will work.
Meanwhile, Afterburner supports QuickSync accelerated recording, which is not that bad, but still has an impact on the CPU. When recording in BF3, it's enough to drive the FPS under 60 (but over 50) at times. Didn't see an advantage over the default MJPG recording (the latter actually seems faster), other than the fact that you get an encoded and compressed video, which is good if size is an issue.
Also upcoming major update to RadeonPro is supposed to include a GPU compute accelerated recording for AMD, although with some limited options. This one has me curious as well.
Made fast video in Brutal Doom (1080p and 60fps), this is how the quality is when i have rendered it in editing software (tried some slow motion). Anyway, seems that the damn Shadowplay is like Duke Nukem Forever, never comes (want to see how it performs).
what i need is to start the fps benchmarking preferably from the hotkey (also stop it from the hotkey) and i`d like it to generate nice fps graph on stop hotkey, with min/max/avg etc, which of those apps should i use?

Pretty easy to do with Fraps & Excel (or any Excel equilevant) atleast.
just looked into that file and found MaxAnisotropy=4, wtf - theres no anisotropy settings in game but shouldnt this be at 16?
Depends on the game, 1 to 16 is the most common but 2, 4, 8, 16 = 4 (With 0 for off.) so that could be what it means but again it can also be a individual value.
