A game developed by Firaxis and published by 2K is indie? Or is that just code for "looks like cheap shit"?

They can't do any of those two. Pirates is / was an ATARI IP ( Sid spread IP's like there was no tomorrow ) and Alpha Centauri belongs to EA. Unless 2K bought Pirates and somehow convince EA to sell them the rights for Alpha Centauri, none of those games will ever happen again under Sid's leadership.

Railroads is safe, as it belongs to Firaxis. Problems arise from the fact that licensing the trains names is very expensive in our days. Way more expensive then when Railroad Tycoons were made or even at the time when Railroads came out.

Hehe! See? There are definite ways around "omg we own the IP, you can't make games like that any more!" - just look at Satellite Reign. EA owns the name "Syndicate"? Oh well, we'll just make "Satellite Reign" then, same game, same style, different name.

Yup, the circumvention can be done easily enough, but it's still a pity if you lose the original brand - big publishers sitting on IPs they have no intention of actually using is one of the most detestable things in this industry.

I couldn't agree more mate and that goes for publishers of any content, whether it's games or movies. Fox sitting on Firefly with no intention of using it still gets my hackles up even today, a DECADE later.

Pffft, you're such a picky bastard. Perhaps the gameplay will be fun? That's all that matters!

Shit, I think it might be fun hahaha. Autoduel with airplanes. The only thing I didn't like is it looked like turns weren't simultaneous. A game like this, in my opinion, absolutely needs to be done like the game Flotilla - you choose your actions and then the turns play out simultaneously. Similar to how Frozen Synapse works.

Also, slips and skids as advanced combat maneuvers? What the fuck?

Maybe it just appeals to me as an aviation dork. Smile

Pretty simplistic in the beginning. I imagine it getting more difficult after a few missions, especially on the harder difficulty settings. I still wish the turns were simultaneous though.

I'm having issues with the Alias version freezing up forcing me to kill the process.

But what I've played so far is kind of fun. It's a really small game so no harm in giving it a download. Smile

Good for passing time. And, yeah, it's kind of fun. So i guess it wormed on my drive and will stay there for a while.

Bought it on sale, it is quite fun. Don't expect a full fledged Turn based strategy, after all it's a small game. But I enjoy it a lot, so if you can get it somewhere cheap and you are into these games, pick it up! Smile

The freezing is annoying for me. I might make three missions or I might make it halfway through a mission. Then it just stops. I'll just wait for a fix, assuming it is a bad crack (I think it just uses reloaded's steam crack. Smile If I could play it longer than 5-10 minutes I might think of buying it.
