|
 |
Hi guys,
I used to have my Steam install dir + games library under my F:\ drive after I moved to SSD. Well, now my F:\ drive is actually a network drive residing on a NAS. I can still run Steam and games work reasonably well (even Max Payne 3 @ 60 fps ).
But now that all of my downloads run on the NAS itself, I have enabled sleep on PC (something that I couldn't do historically since I was downloading 24/7). So whenever the PC sleeps, it seems to disconnect from the network drives (despite everything connected through LAN), so Steam crashes.
So I want to move the install dir to the SSD (C:\), while having the games library remain on the network drive. Any way to achieve that without too much work?
Thanks

Cant you set the LAN to not power down when in sleep?

Wrong section.
Belongs in PC Games Technical.

It still disconnects. I think it's a Windows + network drives issue rather than sleep power down issue.

The "best" solution I can think of would be to rename/move your current SteamApps\Common folder, move Steam to your SSD (you don't even need to un/reinstall, Steam doesn't seem to mind being shifted around) and then create a new library inside Steam. Set the location to where you moved your current games and then it *should* pick them up and use them.
Steam > Settings > Download > Content Libraries > Steam Library Folders > "Add Library Folder"
I can't guarantee it though, it's been a while since I faffed around with moving Steam. Moving the games folders is a lot easier than moving Steam and keeping the old game folder path, it seems.

Thanks, sounds good. I did actually already add a library on the SSD for the GTA5 preload, so it might do the trick. Let's see.

Yes, so move/rename the "steamapps/common" folder first.

Anything else ?
Just rename the common folder?
So if i reinstall steam on a different drive i can just rename it back to normal and add it again as a extra folder again?
*edit basically i removed my original steam install from my C drive (ssd).
I reinstalled steam on my F drive that already contained most of my games.
How can i make sure if i install steam on my c drive again it will recognize (and not f*cking crash) my games on that other drive.
Should i first delete the install on my F drive first after renaming ?

You just have to make sure it's not in the Steam folder any more, because if you delete Steam (as in, uninstall) it takes everything with it. Just move the common folder out, reinstall Steam wherever you're installing, put the common folder back.

i had to move my steam folder to another drive last week. moved my steam installation to an ssd e:\steam, most games were on hdd d:\steam and want to keep them there, except a few i want on ssd
-i moved those games from steamapps/common folder to E:\Steam\SteamApps\common
-also copied steam.exe to e:\steam\
-in the hdd, move whole steamapps folder from d:\steam to D:\SteamLibrary\ , then
-open on E:\steam\steam.exe, let it install itself
-then add steam library on D:\SteamLibrary\
-Boom all games are back instantly
-also copied userdata to avoid any issues with steam cloud( isaac rebirth didn't sync right,
and to avoid this and other issues )
-can delete d:\steam after all this if everything works fine
