Plants Vs Zombies 2

Quote:
PopCap has today confirmed the release date for the much-anticipated Plants vs. Zombies 2: It’s About Time, which will be exclusive to iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. The company has also released an awesome new launch trailer that teases some of the new plants and new worlds.

Plants vs. Zombies 2 will arrive on iOS on Thursday, July 18, and it won’t be coming to any other platform — sorry, Android users! PopCap says the title has been designed “from the ground up,” with new worlds, levels, plants, and zombies. There will also be new ways to play released on an ongoing basis, so there will always be more to do.

“Leveraging the touch interface of Apple’s popular mobile devices, Plants vs. Zombies 2 includes all-new touch-screen power-ups that enable players to “break the fourth wall” and interact with zombies directly, as well as via plant defenses,” PopCap said in its press release today.

“It’s about time!” said Allen Murray, Senior Producer for Plants vs. Zombies 2. “We’re confident that players will see the love and attention we’ve put into this game. We’ve created wild new ways to experience the plants and zombies you know and love as well as packing the game with tons of completely new content, and we’re still hard at work coming up with even more cool stuff that will keep Plants vs. Zombies 2 fresh and evolving in the months and years following launch.”

Plants vs. Zombies 2 will be a free download like a lot of recent EA games, which means there will almost certainly be plenty of in-app purchases. This approach isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but it is the one now favored by a lot of big developers.

Hopefully it won’t spoil the title too much. PopCap does state that “the vast majority of the game will be entirely free to play.”

Check out the new Plants vs. Zombies 2 launch trailer below. Look out for the new plants, and the hints at new worlds, including The Future, Wild West, and Ancient Egypt.

My wife is loving the SHIT out of this, she reckons it's far better than the first one in pretty much every way. She's been playing for about 15 hours and hasn't hit a single paywall (Shocked) though she said some of the missions can be stressful - though of course they're made easier if you just buy some plant food... winkwinkwink, eh EA? Oh and neither IAPfree nor IAPcracker/unlocker work for the IAP plants. There's hacks out there for unlimited powerups and leaves, etc, but they ruin the game.

I agree. Not sure I've hit 15 hours yet, but nothing I've encountered makes me think I'll need to pay to beat the game. Someone on Reddit was complaining that you had to go back and play the same levels again to win more keys (and Stars), but what he neglected to mention was that you get different challenges (e.g. now beat this one using no more than 1500 sun, or never have more than 12 plants at once). If you played the shit out of the previous game, including trying to get achievements etc, then you won't have a problem with this, if you're the type of person who upon learning there are 40 levels in a game must be able to beat those 40 levels in 8 hours then you're not going to be able to do that... not without purchasing stuff in the game.

I have no problem with repeating a level with new challenges. Normally takes me a couple attempts to figure out what will work, but it's hardly what I'd consider grinding. Each challenge requires you to think differently.

I've had a lot of fun with this game. Best part is that it is free.

For once EA didn't go full retard on the IAP's. You can play through the game and advance without much problem. Yes, you have to replay all the levels to collect stars / keys but every time you goto replay a level you have a new challenge as it is. Nor do they force you to ever use those special ability things that cost the in-game coins. That being said, even if you need to use them on occasion you make enough in-game currency from beating levels / killing zombies that, again, you need not spend any real money.
