reprogrammed HIV Virus to search and destroy cancer cells. And its called T-Cells.

And something said during the clip

"But the reality is, the dramatic responses of the cancer to new treatments are very unusual"

yeah, i just can see this going resident evil on their asses lol (ofc i don't hope so, but this is kinda how nightmares are made, no ? ^^)

dont hear much of this do you, this was first mentioned I think back in 2011 and since then you dont get much news on the whole how good its been and success of it all and any follow ups in the mainstream etc.. Yes I am sure its in released papers in the medical field area though.

Hard to find the latest about it all.

T cells are T lymphocytes, our usual defense, but in this case they are given a modified version of HIV virus that targets cancer cells and kills them.

it's not the HIV virus, that attacks the cancer cells. The (modified) HIV virus' "reprograms" the immune system of the patient to destroy those cells.

well, that's what they say in the clip anyway. I guess that's why they chose the HIV virus to begin with, since it attacks immune system. So they picked that "skill" of the virus, but removed the "lets kill everything" part of the virus (basically made it non-reproductive i guess). Makes sense.

in that case it could be even used as a precautionary vaccine.

You do know that "cancer" is a general word for different types of bad tumors, right? Rolling Eyes
Also, getting a method of treatment can take up to a decade or even more to get approved and implemented.
