the tests where there's a) b) c) d) e)
and you have to say which are true and which are not.

You get 4 points for all true
2 points for not all true but no wrong
-1 for one wrong
-2 for more than one wrong

just had a smiliar but much more forgiving exam in microbiology today. only one correct answer and no point deductions, 100 questions and medical cases. Studied a week just doing the damned test book which they use for material. found out today that it only counts for 40% of the course and there's and essay part which is also 40% and I did shit in it and 20% from other tests done during the year which were done for average 50% or so. Dont really give a fuck anymore and even an E would do. Cba to farm this shit till the end of June again.

Luckily I am done with this stupid shit. Exams are worthless IMO. They don't prove if you know the material or whatever unless it's a spoken exam.

Shit happens Bloodian Razz (well, wrong choice of words Cool Face), time to move on and try the next one. These exams unfortunately don't test your real skills/knowledge properly, sometimes luck is even more important than studying.

I once got 10 points in one test (with 30 being the maximum), dealt with it, and got 28 at the second attempt (one week later) without even brushing up on what I had studied the first time, go figure.

Haha it depends, if you manage to bewitch the sexy professor with your charm, the contents of your sentences don't matter anymore xD

Tests like that (abcde) do not measure understanding. They measure your ability to remember facts. Facts are important, but contextualizing them is more important.

Yes, yes I'm back.

Exactly Smile. In my course (engineering) we rarely had these tests because they were practically worthless. Remembering one single name/object/function has almost no importance, since it's the "how do you use it and why?" that matters. Razz

Yes. My professor always taught me " NEVER MEMORIZE FORMULAS BECAUSE THEY ARE FUCKING USELESS" derive them yourself and you will be better off. With that you will learn how it works, why is it used for in a given case and makes your life simpler down the road.

Sadly in my line of studies I really need to cram shit, because without the facts it's really hard to do anything.

fuck it. The first day after a failed exam is the worst Smile Now it's pretty okay. I have two months to study for that shit and now I have to worry about other exams.

Finally had my last exam today. Probably my last exam ever. After 10 years being enrolled at uni, it's been enough. Really hard to teach, do research yourself and study other things in the meanwhile. But there are so many interesting things!!!

Btw, I remember being on the hump when I was in high school... so this makes the hump how old???

On topic: I should count it, but I think I participated in ~100 exams over the years, so I can speak with some experience Very Happy. Some exams are hard, some are easy, some are really lame, some are really interesting.

It's true, multiple choice exams can suck, but on the other hand, some can be really easy. However, if the answers are close to each other, it can be really ambiguous, especially when you know the course really well and are looking for farfetched stuff, rather than going for the straightforward answer. Maybe you are overanalyzing stuff and considering too many options because you don't go for the obvious answer.

Like grass is:
a) green
b) yellow
c) short
d) pink

The obvious answer of course is green. But as a plant expert you might say 'hmm, there are some short grasses and yellow grasses' and so you might become distracted.

What are you studying? and 4th semester, that makes 2nd bachelor year? I also have some students here which i have to examinate and sometimes i'd shove an ABCDE test through their throat. You ask for a simple thing and they answer with 2page bullshit because they don't know the answer and want to confuse you with a smoke curtain! In those cases it can be fair to have ABCDE tests, because it is difficult to maintain objectivity in grading after reading 100 crappy exams...

the question is what are YOU studying ?!

I'm studying computer science.
There's this family clan that teaches some courses at my uni, and they're exams are known to be fucked up. I failed discrete mathematics led by a relative of the woman who's course exam i just failed Smile

The course is Theory of language and automata.

I'm going to pass it probably. It'll take a loooot of studying.

The most annoying thing is that i'm already ready to work... Actually i do work.
One more year though.

Well yeah, i never failed year, i just studied a lot of things . first did 5 years to get my engineering degree and then the bioPhD and then economics for the lulz whilst doing the PhD.

Anywayz, 10 years is more than enough to observe/'enjoy' the retardness of the system from within...

And bloodian. IT/mathematics exams... What'd you expect? Those are all a bunch of nutters. More than half of the profs do not give a fuck about exams. Most of them seem to have good people around them to make objective exams. The other half care a lot and do orals (kinky...). Unfortunately, some nutters do not care and have nooone around them to make decent exams...

Don't you have any example exams? At my faculty, i know the students have a book with the exams of the past 10 years... Makes it easy to test in advance whether you will be able to do the exam.

I can't believe there are *still* teachers using this kind of tests. It's totally retarded to just ask for the results without the procedure. Hell, there's a friend of mine who managed to pass a similar exam by copying everything (he took a photo with his cell, sent his to a friend and got the right answers).
