For guns like that, no civilian as far as I'm aware is allowed to own one no matter the permit, unless it's been decommissioned, and to buy the parts to get it working again would be near impossible. These are sanctioned by government if anything, Mchart could probably chime in a bit better on this than me.

Iv heard there are some few states that allow people to own guns with insanely high caliber, but not sure if those are over the top or not?

Highest caliber we can own I believe is a .50

Like the .50 cal Barrett

However, the amount of people who actually own it is...slim. The gun with scope, bipod etc is about 10-15K EASY depending on which options you get it.

To make use of it, you need one hell of a range that'll even let you shoot it, unless you're in Arizona where it's all desert. And to make it even worse...the price of 1 round is close to 5 bucks a ROUND. They generally use 10 round magazines. So to fill it, you're spending 50 dollars for 1 magainze. Which you can shoot off with skill and last..maybe 20 minutes? IF that.

A friend of mine actually owned one, he got his ammo from a friend in the military on discount, 1 hour of shooting he'd spend like 300 dollars on ammo. He sold the gun because it was too expensive to shoot.

http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/712005513

Most people don't have any practical use for owning something like this. Most buy .223 Rem / 5.56 NATO for rifles.

I plan on buying a Ruger Mini 14/30 sometime in the following months.

Unless I can find a place that still has an HK SL8 which is a rifle version of the HK G36

They stopped making them Sad

Fisk, w/o going into any real detail, I would think someone telling you the above would creep me out as well.

The guys in the video are just guys having some fun. When I started shooting, I literally went in just for the "bang". I didn't care if I hit my target or not, it was just fun hearing the boom. I took a break about a year of that as it just didn't hold my interest anymore. About 4 years later I got back into it with a completely different mindset. I wanted to learn how to actually hit my target. From that point it became a goal for me. An active/actual task that I would try to do each and every time I pulled the trigger. It gave me a huge sense of achievement not just because I hit the target, but that I drove myself to that point with discipline and eventually, skill.

I'm no "match" shooter by any means, but I'm not a terrible shot either. It's still a challenge for me and I appreciate that aspect of target shooting and always will.

Sounds crazy on paper..and on forum lol. IT's more..teh training and the practice behind it is what I love. It's a hell of a stress reliever. You play FPS and enjoy the fun of it. THe real thing is just as fun, just not shooting people. Taking a pistol and hitting your target is easy at 20 feet. 30 feet, 40 feet, 50 feet. Even a stand still target is a bitch to hit. Pistols are hard to shoot. Rifles? Knowing the bullet drop, taking into account of the wind.

Like I said, I just love the...technicals of it all. Could I actually shoot someone? Nah, bullets are too expensive Razz

I think it's a thing of culture. People in one culture will bash another's because it's not of their own. It's the same thing as religion. Oh this person is of something else, ours is right so lets pretend to be superior.

Like people saying the oriental who eat dogs and cats is disgusting. So because majority of countries decided to make cats and dogs our friends means they can't eat an animal? What makes it any different than eating cows, pigs, sheep and fucking whatever else there is lol. Hell people eat snake, most of the animals are nastier than cats and dogs lol.

Same goes for guns. Now of course people are going to try and make some argument out of "shooting people and eating dogs is different".

Well, I've heard the argument before, it's about honing your skill at hitting "something", anything really. I kind of get that on some individual level. But this collective stuff just makes me think of sects, cults and what happens to people when they make a religion out of something. It's like something clicks in their brains, one guy says "let's take it another level", "let's do something new, I bought some sheep we can get to run across the landscape" and everyone goes on board.

It probably sounds weird from "the other side" of things, and just to be clear. I have military training and I have learnt to use several types of firearms. To me they are tools of life and death, killing someone in my mind is always murder. People trying to justify murder make me suspicious. "Yeah, but he was a rapist", ... How do you know? People's perceptions are often so skewed (including my own), just take 10 different testimonies of the same thing and they will often be radically different.

The occasions where it is clear cut are so rare (like if you happened to be on Utoya when Anders Behring Breivik decided to be ... a firearm enthusiast) IF you had a gun then, perhaps you could've stopped it, or perhaps you'd be shitting your pants and making an accident out of it.

When it comes to a war situation (like when you are invaded) it's actually worse, because as soon as someone says "war" it's like the easiest justification just to murder and maim thoughtlessly. Everything is justified, somehow bombing civilians "is a casualty of war", "collateral damage" - peoples lives become meaningless. I understand that it is human nature not to relate to "other people", hell I don't care much for people outside my inner circles. And honestly I don't really "care", but to go from that to pulling the trigger, dropping bombs on civilians because someone "ordered me to" is fucking nuts.

And maybe here's where I differ from the firearm-enthusiasts, I see the firearm as a tool to kill someone. To be handled like something you would only use as a very, very last resort. I think it should be in the hands of very select few in society. Because I honestly doubt there are any major group of individuals who really understand the consequences of pulling the trigger and killing someone. People who do it often are desensitized and often suffer from severe cases of PTSD, and people who have done it once, or twice are usually wrecked in anguish and guilt (which they should be, that's normal). And those who pull Hollywood one-liners like that sniper who only felt the recoil when he shot someone, they are nutcases in my world who should be treated.

Others apparently see a firearm as something that makes a loud cool noise and that you can hone your skill on to hit a paper target (or similar). Sure, on some level I understand that. I play lots of FPS-games and to me being a "good shot" on a competitive level is something I get thrilled about. But to me, whenever I held a G3A3 for example I felt a fucking world of responsibility on my shoulders and any rule of safety and precaution that needed to be applied I learnt and did to a meticulous level and detail. From always clearing the gun, double checking it, never pointing it EVER toward a living being, to (when I was trained as a home guard) never escalating any situation. We had our "charts" (basically training exercises) when you had completed them to a certain degree you either were approved, or were labeled a "marksman", then if you were in active duty you had to retake those tests occasionally.

In my mindset using a gun in any situation that is real (trying to defend something) meant I had failed. And on a larger scale, politically someone had failed.

Not sure why I'm ranting about this. I don't look down upon you SpykeZ or Mikey, I am sure you just relate to it differently than I do.

Really can't comment on the collecting. I usually keep 1 shotgun, 1 pistol and 1 rifle.

Shotgun's I use for trap shooting. As I've said in other threads, it's a god damn blast. Some shotguns are better at trap, some are better at skeet. Sometimes having a semi auto is better than having an over under.

For me, I don't even care that much about pistols or rifles, I just LOVE shooting trap

Get out there on a quiet morning with a couple friends and just go to town on them.

I used to own a S&W AR-15, this one:

But, I got bored with it. Only can really do the same one thing over and over again. Shoot stationary targets. No ranges have moving targets to up the difficulty so i ended up selling it. Just sat in my closet doing nothing.

I own only rifles and use them for hunting large game. I do so for the meat. I can't at the moment because i'm in the UK, but when i'm in the states all my meat is from when I go hunting.

Thus, I also target practice with my rifles so as to not miss the game or hit them in a spot that wouldn't kill them instantly. I'd rather not see the animal suffer, and a shot that doesn't kill instantly means more work.

Being so closed minded and reactionary to firearms is far too extreme and you are not recognizing that firearms can and do serve a larger purpose then the function of just killing people.

So what if a bunch of guys gather up to have fun shooting some machine guns. They aren't pretending that they are shooting people. They are just having fun watching cans, cars, and other shit blow up. Your comments make it sound as if whenever someone goes to shoot a firearm they are imagining that they are killing someone, or that is the reason they are shooting it. This is just false, and you should know better honestly. Although I imagine if your only experience with firearms was in relation to military service then your perception of what firearms are for would be heavily skewed to the 'killing people' realm.

I wouldn't really say I collect them. In the last 5 years I've owned:

Pistols:
Smith & Wesson MP9mm, Taurus PT1911 .45 ACP, Sig Saur P250 9mm

Rifles:
Smith WEsson MP15-22LR

Shotguns:
Remington 1100 12 gauge semi auto, Benelli (fuck ya Italy!) Nova 12 gauge, and a Mossburg Maverick 12 gauge

I don't own any of those anymore. Actually, I don't even own a gun anymore.

I rarely keep a gun longer than a year. I only have use for shotguns during spring/summer/ some fall for trap shooting. So when it gets too cold to shoot trap, I sell it off for something else. Some of those guns I sold to fund another hobby. like my SW 9mm, I sold that and used that money to build my water cooling loop. The one rifle I had I sold because I didn't have any practical use for. 1911 I sold because .45 ammo is too pricey to practice with ant hte P250 I needed money to pay for car repairs.

But if its all about learning to hit our target, while accounting for wind direction and speed, drop, humidity and distance to target...why not do golf, or archery, or paintball? same exact type of skill and honing needed..without the gun? Razz

Not bashing gun owners, just think a lot leave out the "but its a lot more macho and manly to hear "BOOM" when I do my skill honing, than a wussy ball hit with a crooked stick, or a feeble twank of a bow noise".
So when it comes down to it, removing the common elements of needing skill, practicing, getting together with the guys and such compared to any other options, all that's left is it feels more manly and aggressively fun than the others that need those skills.
It tickles that primitive nerve of power and controlled chaos of the fire and smoke, better than golf, or archery or any other activity that needs the same level of control, skill, concentration, etc.

So why not just answer "why do you target practice guns?" with "because it feels manly" Since that's the only thing that sets it apart from the other options.
I mean I've heard every reason from 'its my right' to 'its a game of skills' to 'in case my house is invaded by american CIA ninjas trying to steal my freedom fries I need to be ready'. But hardly ever is anyone just honest about "Its fun, and makes my privates tingle with manliness every time I do it, the longer the barrel, or louder the noise, or more lead that cones out, the better!" Very Happy
And nothing wrong with it, all guys do SOMETHING, that covers that need. But when asked "why do you shoot guns" they give answers of why they like to hone a skill, or get together with the guys, or such..and never answers the question of "why is a gun the choice to do the above with compared to other options".

Semi-auto is no longer a machine gun. MG's are referred to as fully automatic, and in order to own on of those, like say..an MP5, you're going to be paying out the ass for it, and that's ONLY if you can get your city sheriff to sign off on it.

haha yea, wasn't downing on it, or saying it was wrong to do so.
Was more poking fun at like the gun guys I know personally. They will go out 4-5 together with the biggest/loudest/fastest guns they have, shooting targets with calibers large enough to rip 3" hole in it..only thing missing is chest beating, and poo flinging to make it more a "show of manhood".

But REFUSE to admit it has anything to do with the release of tension doing manly things to blow off steam. They get offended if you suggest that..like saying that means they wasn't manly enough BEFORE they did it...or something.
Almost like telling them "I think its also a bit, that its a primal urge thing, and gives you a bit of 'man time' doing it..so you enjoy it" makes them reply "What you calling me gay? is that what your saying? That otherwise Id be a faggot? Faggots don't shoot guns, men do, so therefore obviously I'm not one..."
