Went into work this morning already feeling like shit and knowing today was going to suck shit. Get to my machine at work, lift a part that weighed less than a pound, sharp pain forms in my mid back, I ignore it because I was just tense from sleeping like shit. Next thing I know I turn around and collapse to the ground screaming. Boss ran over hit the e-stop on the machine, took 3 guys to try and lift me into a chair while I'm screaming bloody murder because it hurt to move.

Guess I tore a muscle in my back or something. They asked if I wanted to sit there for a bit to catch my breath and then realized I could barely do that so they called 01189998819991197253 (haha) and had to take me out on a stretcher to the hospital. Was there for 4 hours before I could finally move semi normally buuuut, they gave me oxycodone and Valium prescriptions which is fucking BOSS.

I hate being useless and people telling me what I can lift and can't lift but I guess I'm going to have to suck it up for the next week.

Something like this can happen to anyone. It's not age related. One wrong move/turn/whatever can be enough.

About five years ago, at age 22, when I was still working for an IT company, building PC systems based on contracts for German institutions. There was this extremely busy week. Unusually busy because the contract/order was quite impressive, to say the least.

We got our components delivered in the morning and I got a bit cocky because the unloading process was a bit too slow for my taste that day. So I've put on my "weightlifting champion face" and started hauling them boxes into the storage. Including jumping on and off the truck.

Then it happened... my "weightlifiting champion face" bailed on me and my "fuckingshitthathurts pain face" took it's place... fucking lumbago (Low back pain. But the spontaneous kind. We call it "Hexenschuss" in Germany)! At 22! Be cursed! I could barely move for a week...

So, yeah, I feel your pain Spykez. Even though your condition sounds alot more severe.

Well a week later after the doctor wanted me on some pain meds to see if it heals. I cancelled the appointment and went to my chiropractor instead since they know how to work with backs and stuff like that.

I wish I'd taken a picture of the xray of my back. I apparently sprained it. My mid back to lower is squigly like an S, main nerve that travels in the spine is pinched and to compensate for it being so fucked up my hip's are about 1/4 inch off (one is lower than the other) and it threw my upper back out. When she popped it back into place it knocked the wind out of me.

I feel TONS better but holy shit I wish I went to her first if I had known my back was so fucked up from all this.

It wasn't the part that got me, it was the wear and tear from not having ergonomic tables at work. I'm tall but the tables are more for mid height people. I hunch over them a lot. We've made a request for better tables so I guess time will tell if they give them to us.

hope you dont work for a corporate structure or they will ignore your request haha

back injuries suck though, i developed sciatica a while back and didnt realise lying down doing nothing made it worse... when it first popped up i spent 2 weeks hardly able to move my right side.

course i mostly have that under control, but ofcourse a week or so ago i pulled a muscle in my shoulder... Sad
