  • Story/Description:
    Quote:

    What is Rogue Legacy?

    - A rogue-"lite" game for PC, Mac and Linux.
    - You will die, but your children will avenge you. They might be genetically deficient, but that's ok. You still love your colour-blind baby. Or do you?
    - A procedurally generated castle. Every playthrough is different.
    - Over 8 classes to choose from. Each class has unique abilities which change the way you play the game.
    - Every time you play you get a little stronger. Never back to square 1.
    - Find tons of loot and deck your dood OUT.
    - Massive Skill tree? What? Yup.
    - New game+? Zup? Yup.
    - Equip runes and customize your character however you want. Wanna fly? GO FOR IT!
    - Got a controller? Play with a controller. Big Picture ready!
    - Fart Jokes. Or not... Depends on how much you hate children with I.B.S.
    Clowns.

  • Multiplayer: No?
  • System requirements:
    Quote:

Runs on my older laptop! So pretty much anything should run it.

Preview:

Trailer:

I don't have much to say about this one really. I bought it as it was only $10 and as you might be able to see from my posts about 3 indie titles today, I was trying to find something that would play decently on my laptop! This does, but it was only after I'd bought it that I realised the full game hadn't been released yet. The demo plays well and it seems like an interesting take on a rogue like. I'm looking forward to it coming out so I can actually play it for real!

Another greenlight project that deserves a vote!

My body is ready.

Honestly, this is game is awesome. Fighting my way through a random castle with a dwarfish Paladin with severe flatulence, which occassionally makes you jump higher, only to die and enter the castle again as a monochromatic (which means everything is black and white) Wizardess with a severe lack of depth perception in the next generation is absolutely hilarious.

Basically you play the game first as some cool Warrior dude, only to finish the game 120 generations later as his severely degenerated offspring.

The castle rooms are randomly distributed each time you enter, except if you pay a dude to keep it the same. For that service he takes some percentage of all the gold you collect this run. Quite a big percentage iirc.

Also a Xbox controller is really handy, once you get the dash ability it's way easier to dash left/right with left/right triggers instead of Q and R or whatever it is on the keyboard. It's kind of weird they did not go for only backwards dash as in most Castlevanias.

I dug through the demos files a bit, and apparently all the rooms are saved as .xml files, so maybe there will also be some modding in the future too.

It is indeed. Very fun game. Probably took me 35 or so generations, you do need a gamepad for optimal play though.

Yeah, don't even think of playing this without a gamepad. It would be like trying to play Super Meatboy wearing boxing gloves grinhurt It's a great game though, really and thoroughly enjoyable, I'm actually going to feel guilty Yarr'ing it -- but well, no cash is no cash.

Good for you? Razz No but seriously, that's one hell of an accomplishment, well played. I'm sticking to controller though Wink

On the subject, Giantbomb posted their quick look. http://www.giantbomb.com/videos/quick-look-rogue-legacy/2300-7631/ The main player is a right derp though Sad

This is the Roguelike game I have been waiting for. I was always intrigued by the concept, but the games were too unforgiving for my taste. This "Rogue lite" approach is just what I wanted Very Happy

Agreed guys, I've just tried the demo, loved it. Classic roguelike with procedurally generated levels, great 2D pixel art and music, and a very interesting upgrade system on top of that.
Pretty damn hard too at first (which is a plus), but it gets easier once you progress and unlock/upgrade skills so..yay!

@me7

Same here, I love the idea of Roguelikes but I'm not usually into them since - as you said - they're too unforgiving. That's cool and all but I certainly prefer Rogue Legacy's approach Very Happy

@ixigia

Have you seen the trailer? Man oh man, we only get part of the "Castle" area in the demo and that was tough enough, but the "Forest" and "Dungeon" areas look absolutely insane! The trailer has one scene exploding like some doujin nightmare that would give even the most uber of piston-fingered Japanese ubergamers a run for their money Laughing

i love a punishing rouge-a-like as much as the next guy, but those parts of the trailer were what got me really excited for this one. cant wait to try this out...now i just have to decide whether i can wait for the full game, or if i should hit up the demo...

Your saves don't carry over to the full game and MUCH of the skill/unlock system is disabled so I'd use the demo get to grips with the way the game plays Smile It's not like it will ruin much of the experience for you in the full game.

Aye! That looked nasty as hell, and yet attractive grinhurt. Great times ahead. Our poor patience will be thoroughly tested, that's for sure Laughing

@mach1ne: don't worry, the fact that each playthrough is different (unless you decide to freeze the level) makes it almost impossible to get bored. Razz

This was the Gamersgate version but it had no protection either(...much like the heroes...), I guess FLT might rip the GoG version and maybe some other group will do the Steam one, seems to happen now and then but anyways a release is probably soon to come with the game now available from multiple sources.
(Fairlight with GoG and Skidrow using Steam.)

Awesome game. Just played a little but have to goto bed. I'm loving it.

Please just buy the game folks, they deserve the money. Even at the higher price of $15 it's still cheap considering the replay value.

What is interesting from looking through the game files is that the game appears to be quite easily modded.
