My GF lent me her copy of The Dark Tower and, while I'm not really big into westerns...was kind of cool.

So I'm not looking for little comic books one by one, but are there any big books like that? Look into the Walking Dead ones.

Also, who did those...violent Batman comics. I remember seeing some really sinister looking Joker stuff. Was it Frank Miller

You are probably talking about Batman: the Killing Joke. It's done by Alan Moore.

It might not be a graphic novel but more of a classic comics - Transmetropolitan. It's f... awesome.

And I don't know how you define graphic novel - most of the ones I "own" are more social, personal stories with great art style than adventure stories like Blue Pills, 3 Story - The Secret History of the Giant Man or Three Shadows.

Oh boy, you are in for a treat Smile

Check out every single issue of Garth Ennis' Punisher work they are awesome, try the 5-series "Born" as a start: It tells the origin story of The Punisher - http://www.amazon.com/Punisher-MAX-Born-Garth-Ennis/dp/0785110259.

The series is a great way into the "Max" Imprint which is Marvels much more serious and darker comics.

When we are talking Garth Ennis then definitely check out some of his other works:

Some longer stuff:

The Preacher (One of the best comic books ever written and deals with religion in a contemporary southern US)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Preacher_(comics)

The Boys (Ran for 6 years, got finished last year. It asks the question are superheroes always the good guys? Hint: They are not)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Boys_(comics)

Some short stuff:

Crossed (Global zombie apocalypse with a dark twist)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crossed_(comics)

303 (Fictional conspiracy story through the eyes of a Spetnatz trooper in Afghanistan)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/303_(comics)

War Stories (retelling of war stories through comics)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_Story

Some more short stuff from different writers

Nemesis (ever tried following the bad guy in a comic?)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nemesis_(Icon_Comics)

Wanted (Some said it was the Watchmen of Villains, I agree)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wanted_(comics)

Red (Not a cheesy comedy with Bruce Willis and Helen Mirren, this is a action packed thriller by the acclaimed Warren Ellis)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_(WildStorm_comics)

+1, but Nemesis was kinda of lame though and definitely did not made kick ass "look like S#!T" Cool Face

Also Warren Ellis stuff is pretty good, Transmetropolitan and Planetary are definitely worth checking out, especially with the art on the latter:

Ha! I knew you were going to hook me up!! I was just going to PM you and save the trouble but figured others would have some good ones to share. I stopped at the book store on the way home and looked through their novels and found one called Zomnibusn (http://www.amazon.com/Zomnibus-Volume-1-Shane-Mccarthy/dp/1600105270) and so far, the first story was fucking HILARIOUS and AWESOME. I'm def going to pick up volume 2.

I recommend besides whats already posted:

100 Bullets (100 issues)

Great crime story with a sweet setup.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/100_Bullets

Battle Pope (12 issues but its some of the funniest shit ive read)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_Pope

Goon (about 40 issues..also a slightly more lighthearted comic. Deals with an enforcer for the local mafia in a town swamped by zombies, with werewolves and other shit. Oh and setup is pretty boss)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Goon

Marvel Zombies
Surprisingly funny. This is also pretty light cause its fucked up from the start.

Y The Last Man - Huge graphic novel series that ran like 60 issues and spands across several years in story. The series is about the only man to survive the apparent simultaneous death of every male mammal (barring the same man's pet monkey) on Earth. The story is epic in scale. Very good. Will be made to a movie probably.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Y_the_last_man

My gay lover and confidante Mutantius mentioned some that I wanna +1: The Preacher and The Boys. Very different but great. The Preacher is also an epic in scale and spands across time and continents. Its fucking awesome.

Btw nobody mentioned Watchmen?

Also if you wanna try some classic super hero comics try these by 6 issue series by Garth Ennis:

Ghost Rider - Trials of Tears

Thor - Vikings (this one is pretty luls too)

And by Alan Moore:
Batman - The Killing Joke

Kevin smith did some daredevils that were good(but i cant remember what they are called mine are gathered in a huge set) and some batman comics. I can recommend Batman - Cacophony atleast. Nice joker story.

Thanks zips to you too zip! I think by him mentioning Nemesis, Watchmen was implied.

This may be me sounding picky but I plan on buying the books. Are there any omnibus editions of any of these. I hate buying separate comic books lol.

Watchmen should be in one book. By the way you should buy V for Vendetta too. The comic is far better than the movie.

I envy you Spykez, comics books in the states are dirt cheap...

I remember Battle Pope zipf, That was batshit insane! Laughing Marvel Zombies is unbelievable until you actually start reading it. Insanely gory and sinister and funny. Though lost interest after the fifth series where it apparently detached itself from the main story which made it "bleh".

Y: The Last Man, alot of tits, action and mystique, what more could one want? Oh yea a apocalypse setting. Still yet to finish 100 Bullets dont know why that never did catch on. Scratch Head

Ex Machina - not strict cyberpunk but have the vibe. Plus it has pretty great story.

Captain Swing and the Electrical Pirates - I haven't read that one yet but it's steampunk.

Transmetropolitan - as I mentioned before.

Steampunk - haven't read it.

The League of Extraordinary Gentelmen

Oh! And there is Blade Runner comic - Do Android Dream Of Electric Sheep.

Sounds like a great deal Laughing Well it's a niche thing I s'pose, not that many fans and the importers who are actually importing comics are keeping the price high. I guess they have to go through some taxes and whatnot.

@zipf
Yea I might just transfer every issue to the iPad, with a hundred issue I should have plenty while commuting the coming months.

I've been reading Channel Zero for 4 straight fucking hours. I haven't read this much since it was mandatory to read books in school lol.

It's absolutely brilliant and in most instances, extremely powerful. The art in it can almost tell the story alone. If you're a fan of V for Vendetta or 1984, you'd absolutely love this!

The Dylan Dog Case Files.... I bought it, I loved it and I wish they'd make more collections like that, there are so much material to use.

Ignore the Dylan Dog movie from 2010.

Go for Dellamorte Dellamore which is much much closer to the true Dylan Dog.

We have these stores here called half price books. Well I went into their bigger store on the west side of my city and holy crap, they had a whole shelf of used PC games. The big box of Total Annhilation but it was for mac so I didn't get it. Few copies of Hard Reset, Penumbra, and some other newer and older games. I saw Neverwinter Nights for 5 bucks so I grabbed it, was going to buy it on GOG.com eventually anyways.

Anywho, between Barns n Noble's used section, Half Priced Books, and a local comic book store, I came home with

The Crow Special Edition

Dracula

Stephen King's The Stand....one of them, it's upstairs and didn't realize there's like 40 versions of it.

A Warhammer one that's like Mark of Chaos, can't recall the name of it

...and totally forgot until today that I ordered the omnibus for deadworld and Terminator Volume 1.....god I have so much to read now.

I still read comics on my 1st generation iPad, it gets the job done but boy its slow (although I would place the fault on me not updating it for a while. 6-7 inches would be too small IMO, at least if you want to read entire panels without zooming.

And I was testing some chinese 7" crap with android and some comic reader - I don't rember which. It was great for reading. The only time I had to zoom was two pages scanned into one graphic file.
