Netflix has unveiled the first trailer and images from the upcoming thriller series The Mechanism. Created by José Padilha (Elite Squad, Narcos) and screenwriter Elena Soarez (Filhos do Carnaval), the show is inspired by one of the biggest corruption scandals in Brazil’s history. This fictionalized version chronicles how a small group of investigators comes to discover the inner workings of a massive corruption scheme, and how it impacts everyone involved.
The first season consists of eight episodes, with Padilha directing the first installment. The show was filmed in Rio de Janeiro, Curitiba, Brasília, and São Paulo. The Mechanism premieres March 23rd, 2018.
Padilha and Brazilian political drama sounds like a very promising combo on paper
Binged it last week, in the end it was rather meh.
Nicely shot, most of the actors did a good job... but it wasn't that interesting. Or well it was badly executed.
Most of the times it felt like they thought they had something clever going on but nope it needed some better writers. Too simplistic.
Also, it will have a second season... that was a proper disappointment. Stretching it out way too thin, should have just made one stellar season with a proper ending.

Can't remember a word of English spoken in the show.
Finally took advantage of the festive days sponsored by cheetus crust and watched the Mechanismic temporada as well. I really really wanted this to be memorable but alas, I echo your sentiments Morphy, it did not hit any particularly high notes for me either
I enjoyed being part of the Brazilian ride with the acting that does its competent job (and Caroline Abras, in all senses ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)), the cinematography (as expected) and the huge story of corruption that functions as a basis for the show is definitely an interesting one. Problem is, the actual way the events unfold doesn't make them flow naturally, there are some odd editing choices and the constant narration doesn't help in my opinion, it's like something is missing in terms of character development and stuff going on in order to be able to be fully immersed.
With the fierce high quality competition around in the crime genre this feels like a wasted opportunity as there could have been room to build something more complex and a bit less predictable. It's unclear how the show could proceed in terms of story, the creators said that ideally (and literally ) it's an ongoing series with no end, though the sensation is that the Operation deserves a better car washing facility.
No story or outstanding characters, simplistic.
Apart from the Brazilian flavored Portuguese expressions, that most will unfortunately miss, there was not much going on.
