i hope its xinput, otherwise you will be tinkering a lot.
any game made for consoles will be good with a gamepad as its developed for it.
so just play games and enjoy the new difficulty that comes from wielding the derp pad
gta 4, alan wake, kingdoms of amalur, ass creed series, batman series. those are the games where i noticed this the most, or at least the ones I can remember.
gta 4 with a mouse, total joke, i can pixel snipe enemies behind cover before they even get a chance to shoot. with a gamepad=challenging game
same with alan wake. game mood changes immensely depending on the control method.
With the m+kb i would play it like quake and dominate easily. with the derp pad, i struggled for life and the game gained a survival element. more missed shots, shoddier aim, item depletion, etc.
other games where mouse look is not essential to gameplay, like ass creed series or batman. just feel much better and comfier to control on a gamepad then to juggle that many keyboard keys, especially considering that often context sensitive stuff on the derp pad will be a 2 key combo on the keyboard.

It will take you years of extensive training to properly use a gamepad.

Dwarf Fortress. You would simply need to translate several dozen keys to a gamepad. Should be fairly easy if you consider combinations with the shoulder buttons.

every single platformer/sidesroller
i would imagine limbo would be absolutely terrible on m/kb
it's a good starter game actually if you haven't played it yet
the arkham * batman games are the most enjoyable gamepad games i've played
then there's splinter cell games if you want to stealth and avoid gunplay
asscreed games
skyrim (the menu system is terrible on m/kb but works well on a pad - shows where their priorities lie)

I recommend playing Brothers: A Tale Of Two Sons. It's a great game and you'll get familiar with the "thing" faster.

Platformers (2D/2.5D/3D..doesn't matter) are probably the best playground for a starter, but generally there are so many gamepad-friendly games out there that you won't find any problems adapting. Also, driving games that aren't too simulative, and all the sports titles.
Just avoid first person/third person shooters with manual aiming, those are business.
You could replay Dark Souls for example, it will feel different for sure

Funny you should post this today, as I just bought my self a derproller as well.
After one day of use, I just have a very small thing to say: why make shooters for consoles at all?
The low input bandwidth and lack of precision is killing me.
Driving is better though.
I reckon, that platformers, fighting games, driving and sport games and some specific action games are better on controllers. The rest, all km, and nothing else.
Worst part of the controller is, I can't look around and be pressing action buttons at the same time. That is very frustrating. You just can't have good surround awareness with a derp pad, it's physically impossible.

well tried some stuff and the main problem for know is how to hold that thing properly and comfortable:
Skydrift and overall racing feels great on it
Renegade Ops and Trials Evo plays fine aswell although i play more effectively (higher score) on km for some reason
Platformers (tried Castle Crashers, Guacameelee and Spelunky) - i just cant handle at all and it just feels weird - might be the lack of practise
will try TS stuff tomorrow

Sleeping Dogs
Non realistic driving games are good with a controller aswell, but I have to say, while Project CARS was super fun with the pad, it is unbelievable good with a wheel, ffb, analogue gas/brake/clutch

someone already mentioned it, but i totally agree - the arkham games. arkham asylum was the FIRST game i tried when i got my 360 pad (my first controller) and not only was the game very intuitive with it, but a hell of a lot of fun to play.
additionally, something like trine is great too.
