|
 |
Just a warning for anyone interested in this router. It's garbage, stay the hell away from it.
It works just fine, until I want to start leeching/seeding torrents. Then the motherfucker chokes to death and just doesn't respond, until I close deluge/utorrent.
This is the second Rev.B1 dlink that's total crap, the first one just completely killed it's wireless connection and I had to get a new one. This one at least has that going for it.
The weird thing is, I had an older DIR-655 which was my sisters. Had if for almost a full year without any major complaints about it, then she wanted it back due to her getting interwebs again and so I thought I'd get exactly the same one. I should have just paid extra and bought the ASUS RT-N66U... -.-

Try to disable "Enable bandwidth management [uTP]" option in uTorrent at Preferences --> BitTorrent.
That option was killing my old Linksys WRT54G V5 in just a few seconds after starting a torrent.

Dude that router has seen my wall from close.
I threw the damn thing against the wall due to it failing all the time...
for a 150+ euro router, it's fucking shit...
Funny how you got the same one again now
Ah i see that you had a little cheaper version, i had the 855

Yeah, that was one of the first things I tried. Didn't change anything...
Honestly, I wish I could like this router but I have a bad experience stemming back to like 2004 or so when I bought one of their earlier routers as well.
Dlink has honestly been horrible when it comes to firmware...
There is no doubt that this will be the last Dlink product I have purchased, never again am I going to put money into this shitty companies pocket.

The DIR-655 is almost identical to the 855. It only differs in some small features and doesn't have the LCD display.
Thing is, the router cost when it was new 120€ (the one my sister has now) while the one I bought now cost like 60€ (both are DIR-655 just different revisions). I'm starting to think that it's cheaper not only because it's not "new" anymore but because they are skimping on quality on the fucking thing.
Anywho, going to order me the ASUS RT-N66U soon...
PS
Ohh and Dlinks forum support is just as good as EA's helpdesk. Meaning I just get a bunch of copy/pasta answers wichout any real help, then when they basically say " fuck you, I don't have anymore text to copy" they tell you that you can call their phone support (which of course costs money).
Haha, this company....

Well you are doing very good getting the ASUS one, so far (since i got it on the 2nd of jan) it has been up and running without a single problem.
The only downside is (as with most routers) that you need to reboot the thing when opening ports
But other then that, there is yet a flaw i have to find
And yeah, dlink support is fucking shit. They refused to reply to my mails about the subject or about firmware upgrade to get rid of some bugs. Already reported them to the ECC, but didn't hear back yet.

I had one router which was getting ass raped in 1-2 ethernet ports, when downloading torrents. 3-4 did not have router own firewall enabled, worked fine on those. That was Telewell router tho, dunno about Dlink (have always used Telewell ones).

It won't hurt to try, I doubt it'll do anything but it won't make it worse. ^_^

Good to hear since it was actually my first choice but since my GF was like "are you sure we can afford it this month?!?" I caved in and got the DIR-655. >.<

Only one downside from the design itself is this:

Cables on top bending like that if you put the router on it's stance...
I rather not put it flat down so it has more room to "breathe" and not get so hot as the others did..

So I just got the RT-N66U and I'm trying it out. Going to set it up (some basic shit) and then try it out, so far so good. ^_^

Never tried that, but i do see that it's possible to do with our router.
I might experiment with it some day
