Hello,

I've got some serious problem with my video card. I tried to flash it from X800 Pro into X800XT-PE, firstly I flashed it with ATI X800XT-PE BIOS with Gainward's gvf12, then I flashed it with Gainward X800XT-PE BIOS and that screwed my card. Now my computer hangs when the card is inserted. As far as I'm concerned the hang happens during video card boot-time (before MB's BIOS boots). I tried placing another card with PCI bus, and it didn't help, even though it was set to use PCI as primary card (It boots fine without my faulty X800). So is there any solution to my problem ?

You should flash it back to X800PRO.

I once had the same problem when I flashed my 9800PRO to XT.

The bios dint work for my 9800pro and the windows colors where all messed up. So I used the original bios file (made a backup of it before I flashed the PRO bios with XT bios) and flashed it back to 9800PRO and then the problem was gone.

So every time you are planning to flash your graphics card’s bios always make a backup from the original bios.

More to the point. If you flash a card with a totally incorrect BIOS the card is not recoverable. As you wont be able to boot the machine and the card wont be able to initialize in order for it to be flashed again. My friend, you just lost £300 Razz!

Next time you plan on doing something silly, read the manual provided.

That's just what I tried to do, but as you know if a computer doesn't boot then you can't flash your video ROM. I made a copy of my BIOS, the only problem is that I don't have the possibility to flash it again.

Isn't there some way to flash the ROM externally ?

If you're VERY lucky, you might be able to remove the rom chip and replace it with a blank/pre flashed one. You would probably need a decent computer lab (uni/college/school) with rom flashing hardware to do this, but there is a glimer of hope. Search online for replacement X800 bios rom's, or see if anyone has been able to remove it. HOWEVER, it is just as likely that the rom is built into the card, if so, your screwed.

Good luck. If I hear anything Ill let you know, Ill also contact my hardware dept to see if they have any idea's, but it isnt often they flash GFX cards Razz!

did you buy it from a shop like "PC World" or Order it off the net??? If you bought it from a shop like PC World, just go in and say "when I put this card into my computer it wont boot up" and they will most likely give you a new one Very Happy

If u cant fix it, stick it on ebay as damaged, or dont say its damaged and if they complain say it must have been dropped at the post office hehe

The first idea is good one because in the shop where u bought it some times they cant find out what’s exactly wrong with it and they problobly (if u are really lucky) give u a new one.

And people who sell broken stuff in eBay should be kicked in the *** so don’t to that.

And next time when you flash some thing please read the forums first and find exactly the right bios for the card.
For example if u have a Club-3d Ati X800 with Samsung memory and so on u need a club-3d X800XT bios with the same parameters.

Unfortunately I haven't found any information on the possibility of video BIOS removal. I also have no access to any flashing device. So if I don't find any method for repairing it myself at home I will have to reconsile myself to the loss of video card and work with primeval Riva TNT. Any help would be appreciated.

I boutght it on an internet auction over a year ago, so it's not an option to return it. Most likely I'll have to sell it as damaged.

correct me if I'm wrong but u tried to flash an ordinary X800 Pro to an X800 XT PE??? Non-ViVo X800s are protected from flashing to XT by a hardware laserlock. Unless u have circumvented this laserlock NO flash attempt will ever work.

And btw, it is really new to me that Gainward produces ATi-chipset based video cards. I have never seen such a card! So, I hope you know exactly what you are doing. Rolling Eyes

If nothing helps then; A)your motherboard don't want to boot with both cards ;B)your card is fried somewhere
