I guess crowd funding is here to stay. I guess it is good unless it doesn't deliver or that one project you really want to succeed fails funding.

There are more and more of these projects, I think it should have its own sub forum. Do it now and you don't have to move that many threads. I think the separation is logical and in the future it is easier to find older threads back with the search function.

Edit: Forgot to mention it but this proposal is for the game Kickstarter projects. There are many other Kickstarter projects, basically for all forms of creativity but they don't get really highlighted on this forum.

People could just tag thread as "KS".

But this is borderline gay, just so you know.

Why do people think of them as KS games, rather than just games?

What's it matter where the funding comes from? Should independents have their own subforum too? Single people working on games? What happens when the game's out, there would be two threads in two separate sections for the same game?

At the end of the day (or, some day) a game will be made and the KS portion of its development cycle will be long behind it. I don't see the need to segregate anything

1. It is an abstraction. Like there are trees and there are apple trees. An apple tree is a tree but a tree doesn't have to be an apple tree.

2. I was quite a sceptic towards KS projects first. I have said something like: "These developers should have made it by now, they can fund it themselves (in regard of the Eternity project from Obsidian)." I guess a bit blinded for the fact that too many distributors who fund games, rape the developers. So yeah, it does matter where the money comes from if you want the artists to have artistic freedom.

Since many games have console and PC versions, there is often more than one thread for games. So that is nothing new. Edit: There are two more, the "PC Games - Technical" and the "Console - Technical" sub fora. Wink

3. Some games will not get funded and some games will get funded and still never see the daylights. IMO handier to keep the crowd funding chatter in a separate thread in a separate sub folder.

That should be enough, for now. If KS really kicks off (that is, long-term interest from both devs and supporters) maybe then a dedicated sub-forum could be in order.

I am pretty sure crowd funding is here to stay, might as well use CF then instead of KS since I suspect that we will be seeing more of these websites soon. Anyway I have said enough...

@Interinactive: Already answered that partially with 3. Another reason, to avoid temptation. Very Happy
And of course not every CF game project has to be a PC game project.

Most important reason though, I think we will be seeing more and more CF projects, because face it, many would like to become a successful game developer. My projection is that it will soon clog up the "PC Games Arena" sub forum. Actually it already does IMO.

I would like that the games I like and get funded should remain in PC games section and the ones I don't like should not be created at all. Oh wait, since I am not the only user of this forum, let's leave them all in PC section, where they belong, and the less popular ones will dies out quickly.
Or would you rather have two threads about each game, one in KS section and later in PC section? Expect a plethora of double posts, one here the other there, from users who have no idea where to post. People don't use search as it is, now they'll be confused even more from multiple sections. How many use the PC game "technical" section, for instance?
Why not generalize the rule then? In this economic climate, no development studio but the most prestige ones are safe, this their games may or may not see the light of day. So let's make a section for "announced games" and then a section for "games with trailers" and "cancelled" and "about to be released but got pushed back and slowly turning into vaporware" and "released". That should make things so much tidier. Smile

BTW, no tags either please. These are such ugly beasts, keep them in the console section.

That's what I've been doing, which could just as easily be turned into a full thread if/when the game gets made -- just by deleting the [KS] tag and adding a proper description to the first post. There's no need for an entirely new section.

personally, i don't care about the kickstarter threads. Those worth it, stay on top and those that aren't, disappear rather quickly usually.

Personally I'd keep 'em there where they belong. If they get funded..good, otherwise they'll be swallowed by the Nforce and forgotten for eternity until some necromancer magically pops out and resumes them just to say "ha ha!" a-la Nelson, only to be forgotten again.

I don't like sport games or casino games (pc) ...can we get a section for those too? Wink

Yeah and then again the PC games sub forum is for PC games, not for ballooning ideas for games.
