For gaming related news..?
Most news applies to both console as pc gaming (and sometimes handheld aswell).
Wouldn't it be better to have a section for that kinda stuff instead of raming those topics in between pc gaming section stuff?

To be honest.. I think we have enough sections as it is and we barely use the ones we have in their proper manner. PC Games Arena should, by all rights, encompass EVERYTHING to do with PC Games, just like Console Games Arena does for Console Gaming... and so on. I know SpykeZ - and probably some others - doesn't like that PC games chat includes talk on protection/cracking/technical stuff but... egh... it says "PC Games Arena" - not "PC Reviews and Comments Arena" I think having separate sections will just thin the place out.

I see no point of creating such a section, it perfectly fits into gaming section
For example Valve Thread is perfect example and all valve related information should go there.

well the technical/dox/protection sections can already be deleted tbh.
Most technical shit is being handled in the topic of that game anyway. Well the rest speaks for itself...
That already gets rid of 3 sections that are overrated and gets rid of the "enough sections as it is"
@besthijacker:
I already said, most news is related to both PC as Consoles (and sometimes handheld).
Fine example about the "Cliff Bleszinski leaves Epic" topic, epic is a company for console AND pc.
So technically, we should have 2 topics about the same shit, just so that console people can see it aswell?!

The problem is, is members completely ingoring the fact we have sections for a reason. Posts and threads related to techincal aspects to a game need to be moved to the technical section.

Or the let's play section, 11 topics (exluding the rules one) in 3.5 years....
Another one overrated and can be gone tbh

That would make no sense if you ask me, gaming news that directly affect our games don't need to be relegated somewhere else.

Once more as nobody seems to fully read it.
Gaming news is mostly related to PC AND console gaming (and sometimes handheld aswell)
Otherwise, from now on, ill copy/paste every newspost related to a company that made a single console game, will be reposted in console section (as this is basically what you want)

No need for it, I usually post it on the game's/company's topic on the PCGA.
It would probably avoid some duplicate posts that sometimes pop up but... meh.

Another fine example that wouldn't had happened if there was a gaming news section

Nonsense. People make reposts all the time, having separate sections doesn't - and won't - prevent that. Case in point... Epic Thread and Jokes Section. People post things in ET and then, days months or even years later, someone makes a thread in the Jokes section about the same thing.
Repost.
Did having a joke section stop people from posting in the Epic Thread and vice-versa?

That's between 2 sections, some people don't visit the UV section (i barely do myself tbh).
This example is in the same section..
Still i don't see why people are against it, we have more then 1 utter useless sections on this forum, yet i don't see anyone complain about it...
So get rid of those ~4 useless ones and get a proper one that gives gaming news, because, once again, gaming news AIN'T PC gaming related alone...

The only reason I'm against is because it seems like it would split the forum, forcing people into cubbyholes for specific categories, rather than what they're related to.

This has got me thinking. I would like to see one thread where gaming news could be posted. No comments in that thread about the news, just the news only. Then if it was possible, sticky the thread and have it accessible from both the PC and console forums. Or maybe a main page with a link next to the NFO, Forum and Reviews buttons at the top, that would be awesome! Plus the site could get a lot of extra traffic and maybe new members.
... Just thinking out loud really.

Those examples you gave aren't the articles that i'm referring about.
More about articles like XX leaves XX company.
Or XX company makes these decisions with their future games.
And so on.
So basically, news related to gaming companies themselfs

If you take a look at anyone who takes a shot at running their own forum, the first thing they will do is make 100 sections and expect them to be populated, when in reality only one or two are used. It makes a place look deader than it is.
Problems are fixed when there is a problem, what is the current issue with people posting gaming news in gaming threads? Without news, there'd be fuck all else to discuss. Release dates = news, System spec announcements = news, a batch of screenshots = news, Bozo the clown making CoD 93 = news, pretty much everything that a user doesn't make up themselves can be categorized as news.
One section would be created and used, the other would become redundant. Either that or the news would be posted in both areas and discussed anyway. Pointless. |
This is exactly the reason why I believe PC Gaming Arena should encompass everything -- if there's a thread about Call of Duty Black Ops II.. then everything relating to that game, whether it's technical support, protection bitching, cheats, news, reviews, everything.. it should all be in that thread. It promotes discussion and it keeps people together in the same place. The only downside to this would be searching for specific information in a tide of other information, but mrt did a great job fixing the search engine so that it WORKS now.
Same goes for console gaming. I see no problem with a thread for that stuff in the PC section .. and the same thread again in the console section. The populace is, for the most part, entirely different - so it applies to each individually. That's the way I see it.

I completely agree with you, especially this part:

I know that posting everything in one single game-related thread can get messy at times, with people asking for cracks and rls while others are discussing about a specific mission and 10 other people are mad because they've just found out that a vital DLC will be console-exclusive, but it's the beauty of it.
A segmented forum is never a good option, especially here where the # of users isn't high.

You just said yourself why it shouldn't be in PC gaming.
It's indeed GAMING news, not just PC GAMING, nor just CONSOLE GAMING.
So why should such news be in PC GAMING section?

Besides, even with this happening I'd bet that some people would still post it on a PCGA thread.

Epic is still Epic and is console gaming aswell, doesn't matter what person it's about, it's news about the company and the person.

The best way to handle what you're talking about is to do what the biggest gaming forum in the world does... NeoGAF. No division between platforms, no thread tags, no duplicate threads for games when they're essentially the same (the amount of times I've seen stuff posted in both the PC and console sections here...), threads dedicated to things like PS3 hacking, technical discussions etc are still separate and everything gaming related can be found in one section
It works pretty well for them, otherwise, what you're proposing seems like a half measure. If we need another section for news not directly related to individual games, then why not have sections for only iOS games? PSP games? NDS games? Because they're not needed, it works so well as one big section. | No thanks
