Quote: | Gears of War: Judgment’ ends Tomb Raider’s two week life at the top with Microsoft’s first All Formats No1 of the year pushing Square’s successful reboot into second place.
The fourth instalment in the Gears of War series is a prequel and as such cannot match the launch week sales of its hugely popular predecessor which sold 4 times more in its first week. Sales of ‘Tomb Raider’ drop by 44%, but it still manages to stay ahead of another ‘survival’ themed title, Activision Blizzard’s ‘The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct’, a new entry at No3.
A survivor of another kind is ‘FIFA 13’ (+32%), 26 weeks never outside the Top 6 and up 2 places this week to No4. In their second weeks of release ‘Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2’ (-37%) and ‘God of War: Ascension’ (-61%) both fall one place and four places respectively to No’s 5 and 6. ‘Monster Hunter 3: Ultimate Edition’ debuts at No7 with the 3DS version accounting for 55% of sales and Wii U the rest. The Wii U title accounts for almost 50% of the value generated by all Wii U software this week. ‘SimCity’ (-33%) drops from No5 to No8, ahead of previous All Formats No1s ‘Far Cry 3’ (+18%) at No9 and ‘Call of Duty: Black Ops II’ (+27%) at No10.
Price promotions give a boost to ‘Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance’ (+114%), up from No19 to No11 and ‘Aliens: Colonial Marines’ (+71%) up from No21 to No16. |

If you're not including Steam and most other digital sales platforms in the sales overview why post this in the PC section since it is in no way representative of the PC market. You yourself stated that the majority of these sales are console sales, post this there.
Posting it here just makes it look like these sales represent PC sales as well which they obviously don't considering what I wrote above this.

Because I'm not interested in tracking sales of console games. I would post it there if I was interested in how eg Halo 4 sold, but I'm not.

Square Enix:
(shipped, not sold)
WTF @ "weak sales" and "failed to meet each target"
Assuming they are still talking about the copies they shipped, ~3.5M in a month for TR is in no way bad. Hell, Hitman's is great!

Those sales does not include download. So no Steam sales here. And it's still low?
The games market has gone insane after marriage with big business and stock market. Pleasing stock holders just fucks things up.

Yes, these are shipped so they can't include DD (because on Steam you ship an "infinite" amount of copies (not really, as sometimes Steam runs out of keys, but you know what I mean)).

I can't say that I'm surprised, their goals were insanely high and some past bad management decisions surely didn't help..
I'm only concerned about Eidos Montreal and their future projects, but I think they'll find a way out of this tricky situation.

Absolutely . Sadly having a relevant title is more important than being a quality game these days (at least when it comes to sales).. also Sleeping Dogs' marketing campaign could have been better in my opinion since the game caught a lot of people by surprise and many gamers didn't feel like spending the full price for it.

5-6M in a MONTH for TR? No wonder they turned it into a shooter, it's obvious now they were going after the "CoD money".

Analysts predict: http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2013-04-16-poor-gears-of-war-god-of-war-sales-in-march
Quote: | Cowen & Company today released an investor note estimating sales of Gears of War: Judgement to be around 425,000 units in the US during the month compared to first month sales of over 2 million units for Gears of War 3, released in September 2011.
And sales of God of War: Ascension are estimated at just 360,000 units compared to 1.1 million for God of War 3, released in March 2010.
"We had expected sales trends to improve in March due to a strong core line-up," wrote the company. "Two historically strong franchises appear to have significantly underperformed."
Titles that will have performed much better during the month according to Cowen & Company estimates are Square Enix' Tomb Raider with 696,000 units in 33 days and Take-Two's Bioshock Infinite with 665,000 copies sold in 10 days. |
BSI doing quite ok if true.

Oh oh.. http://www.computerandvideogames.com/401730/restructuring-capcom-halves-profit-forecast/
Quote: | Osaka based publisher Capcom has warned investors that its profits for the financial year just ended will be half of what it originally expected.
Capcom's board of directors made a surprise announcement that it is preparing for a company-wide restructure that will cost it about £46 million. The decision comes from a mandate to modernise the business, as the group explains:
"In view of the sudden and significant changes in the operating environment of the digital contents business, Capcom reviewed its business expansion strategy for the sector and restructured its game development organization."
Company-wide expenses (particularly the figure set aside for restructuring) have resulted in profits halving for the financial year. The company initially targeted a profit of £43 million, though now says its net income will in fact land closer to £19 million. |
On the bright side, hey halved profits or not, at least they made SOME profit AT ALL!

DmC failing to reach its target and Capcom concluding they need to stop outsourcing their games and develop them in house is probably good news for fans of the older DMC games.
RE6 expecting to sell 7 million unit is just though.
