Haha, it basically stopped there. Q4 was a MP nightmare. UT2003+2004 were hopelessly unbalanced (weapons-wise), UT3 was a MP-joke (much like D3+Q4 in their respective universes).
But even the original UT was not really as good as Q3 or CS balance-wise.
I mean, come on, you take all the weapons from the single player centric prequel "Unreal",
including a rocket launcher that can load up to 6 (!) rockets and shoot them at once,
and then you put it in your MP-heavy sequel UT? All those weapons were designed
around the single player experience, with each new weapon being stronger than the
previous one, in contrast to id-Softwares approach "every weapon is deadly, you just
have to use the right one for each situation". How can that be balanced in any way?
UT's weapons were for that time like Q3's weapons with integrated quad damage. xD
So much for my UT bashing, still love it, though.
I remember I was so comfortable with UT2003's lightning gun (variable zoom), my accuracy was 65% back in the days.
In contrast to that, for Q3 me having 38-42% rail acc felt really hard to keep up.
Even compared with todays shooters (BF3, ...) I will probably never be as successfull with sniper weapons as I was with those from UT series.
Or maybe Im just getting older and I dont notice the changes in reaction time. I'll be 31 in a week.
Well, i mostly meant how fun and diverse they were. Compared to today's fps's which are all military clones of eachother... no special setting, no nothing.
I still remember the UT and Q3 levels and how impressive they were, crazy design and all. That and the awesome music as well...

My only comnplaint is drm and all the other shit restricting ownership of a product.
I am all into nowadays gameplay and graphics besides some games.
The Darkness is a product of this gen and it's my fav game (or in my top)
same goes to Gears of War trilogy etc..... and RDR

Well what are you whining about then? Gameplay? Some of the most entertaining gameplay have come over the last ten years, Half-Life 2, Portal, Minecraft, Operation Flashpoint, EVE-Online, Planetside, Fallout 3, Gothic, Witcher, Risen-series, Dragon's Dogma etc. etc. - what is it that you're complaining about then?
