I have a shitty VW193D and lately I've been noticing that it the blacks are a bit washed out.

The thing is, if I raise the contrast any further the whole image gets darker and I really don't like that.
Win 7's own calibrate tool doesn't help that much so... anyone knows any app or site that might help me to try and calibrate contrast, brightness and gamma properly?

dammit, i think i need to search some more for one that helps configure gamma as well, i'm wondering if i'll be able to see a damn thing in 3D vision i had to lower the brightness so much.

[edit] whatever you do avoid a tool called quickgamma, this is gonna take hours to fix, at least [/edit]

all those are pretty well covered online
but one thing i find nowhere is the black point cut-off
i had to make my own test sheet for it;
http://wanha.com/monitor/blackpointcutoff.htm
view in a darkened room (impossible in lit room)
there's numbers on the top, where the number means the color value
you should see all three color elements as a smooth gradient sink into the background without any sharp drops to black anywhere
my monitor has red and green drop to black at 2 and blue at 3
which means the display can't show those colors so i have to calibrate to raise everything up 3 levels
software i've had least trouble with for this is monitor calibration wizard

without this i have nasty artefact in dark games(thief) or dark movies

i don't know how common stuff like this is in modern monitors though

ok so me being a total layman and having no real clue without step by step instructions in front of me lucked out and found something called and... icc profile and loaded that up, some things look a bit.... pinkish though, but i'm not sure if that's just my eyes not being used to seeing the right colors?

should i wait a few hours and see if it still seems pinkish then? that photofriday thing looks just about perfect now so i'm not sure if this is actually worse.

[edit] at any rate, if you want to give it a shot, find your monitor's model number and try following the directions to load it up as your default and then adjust from there

oops forgot the link:

For more precise adjustmens there is Atrise Lutcurve. There are cracked versions of it.
If anyone knows a free program, that does at least same, i implore you to tell me Smile

But other than the more basic adjustments it's pretty hard (not to say impossible) to get a monitor right, unless you have a measurement device (e.g. a colorimeter).
