Platforms: PC first, then Consoles and possibly Mac, Linux
Engine: CryEngine, Unity (maybe UE3)
Comments/Details: I came out of lurking for this. I'm tired of all the linear scripted and streamlined FPSs. I long for the excitement I had when playing SWAT 4; planning your entry, outfitting your team, great coop/mp, more focus on non-lethal takedowns and arrests in stead of just mowing down everything in sight.
The CEO, Christian Allen, used to be a modder for the old Rainbow Six and worked on Ghost Recon: Rogue Spear. The wants to cut out the publishers and prove to VC investors that there is enough interest for this genre. A team of industry veterans from Red Storm Entertainment, Monolith, Surreal, Microsoft, Ubisoft and Bungie are standing ready to join the project.
He is no PR guy and the first pitch just didn't work. He now made a new video and it is starting to catch on, but there are only 57 hours left and the project is at 65%.
For $15 you get the full game when it's done and supposedly it's going to beDRM free, Mod friendly and with LAN support.
If this fails my only hope is Intruder from Superboss Games or Ground Branch from BlackFoot Studios, but I fear it's going to take ages for those projects to get finished, because they won't have nearly as much funding.
Why can't they increase the duration of the donation? Why does it have to end on April 1st?
Are the rules to this? If not, it'd be pretty stupid to end a promising project simply because not enough people managed to hear about to project and donate in time.

Yeah those are Kickstarter's rules.
It is partly his own fault though; his first pitch was kinda rushed and vague. Maybe he expected a similar response after Tim Schafer and Brian Fargo's successes. Schafer just has charisma and both names are well known.
That's how he should have done it in the first place. But I still think he's going about it wrong. All the kickstarter does is get an alpha. No guarantee you ever see a game.

Maybe you're right. He shifted the risk-taking from himself to the pledgers; in stead of first using his own funds to have something to show (pre-alpha), he is asking people to trust him. Is Kickstarter even meant for this?
Problem is that similar to the investors, some other veteran developers don't want to risk leaving their jobs at the big publishers and join Serellan LLC, if it turns out there is not enough interest.
i'd love a proper hc shooter, but yea, i agree
i get the sense that they don't have complete faith in fan funding
also, military fps are fairly well represented already
i'm a backer but i rather they'd commit to a focused product first and then expand from that if they get more
I'm not backing a game where my money goes towards creating a demo to impress the same people that KS proposals should be trying to circumvent
Secondly, 3 platforms? Spreading himself a little thin don't you think? I'd rather one platform, whether it be like the PC version of GRAW, or perhaps a console version where it would be like SOCOM.
No thanks
He tried to make clear that these investors are not the same as publishers, and thus will not try to steer the project in the wrong direction; they're either in or out. From they way he's talked about them I get the idea that he personally knows them, just like the other developers.
I agree with your second point. Especially because it seems that the console version will be 3rd person, contrary to the PC's 1st person view.
Seems to me that you can't just switch view types and be done with it; you need to balance and change a lot of things. I.E. the gameplay will be completely different, like 2 separate games.
well no offense but you call the people who want controller support derp but you expect a decent game funded with 200k (if you subtract the licensing cost for the gfx engine etc... there it is obviously even less money)
Anyways didnt bother to check the kickstarter site but if the project failed they did themselves and all the donators a favour

My point was another, aside from the money, the idea of designing the game around the gamepad (and the devs seem to support this) automatically makes the "hardcore-tactical" part weaker, and the project less appetizing for those who really desire it

WTF?! Are they serious? Well, if that's the case, it's failure is propably for the best
Well deserved for trying to make a game exclusively for the
I lost interest the moment I saw they were going to build it on consoles as well.
What specifically are you afraid of? A lot of issues are addressed on the forums. Development is going to start on the PC. Seems as if he's going to treat each platform separately.
Only 29 hours left now and still 55k to go; seems impossible to me. Time to move on I guess. Maybe in 5-10 years there will be another tac shooter.
hmm, the scamming posibilities of this kickstarter thing are limitless
- copy-paste models from obscure mods into one 'game'
- polish it up with some shitty oc, levels and textures and say it's under development
- screenshots that are pretty and some footage that you claim is using your own tech while it isn't
- and voila, you've got a bunch of saps lined in to give you money for a day's work
heck, you could say that you're working on porting PS3 games to PC that will run them perfectly, just photoshop the shit out of screenshots at high res and i'm sure people will buy into it
SOCOMers are just in a bad place because they have been screwed over several times now, and are simply skeptical as hell about everything. They are selfish (as any gamer is) and want it to be lead on the PS3. I think it would be more popular if it was lead on the console, simply because there is absolutely nothing close to a hardcore tactical shooter on the console. PC gamers that would be interested in this game are somewhat content with ARMA and games like that. The PC gamers arent exactly as desperate as the console gamers for this. But everyone is equally as selfish and want it their way or nothing.
If this kickstarter was given 2 months we would reach the goal. Its going to be real tough now. We need a big boost from someone.

Sure, but who is going to risk their reputation doing that? They'd never succeed at another Kickstarter project, and they'd probably be black listed by the entire gaming industry. It would be like a repeat of Limbo of the Lost.
