Started two days ago, a few hours after booting my system suddenly gets slower and slower.
The sound always fails first, then other services go down one after another.
Physical memory usage is constantly over 90%, although resource manager shows that programs use only around 1 of my 4gigs.
Many processes also rather suddenly go down from 5-20M memory usage after boot to <1M.
Rebooting needs to be forced, sometimes it ends with a BSOD (sound driver related)

Virus? MSE finds no threat.
Soundcard? Why are other services failing and memory usage is so extreme?
Memory? Diagnostics show no error.
Temperature? Fine
HDD? chkdsk finds no errors, no crc errors in eventlog

Always seems to happen after a few hours of uptime!
Ideas?

Reformat! Nr1 problem solver if hardware is not the issue.

We'll see.
I have dual boot so I'm planning to run the system on WinXP the entire day tomorrow.
If its stable its probably software related indeed.

All of that combined doesn't sound like a hardware issue, more like software gone haywire.

Wow that is weird ... some of your resident programs having an epic mem leak ? Laughing

Your idea to rule out the hardware problem is good, let us know. You can also try "sfc /scannow" in a console, just in case.

XP was stable now for 12hrs+.
Also tried sfc /scannow on Win7 (thanks, now I know this command exists) but verification is ok. (Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.)

I'm too lazy to reformat right now, so I'll get back on XP to download the myriad programs I'll need to install and further test the stability.

Atleast I constantly made backups and system images this time around but they are all useless now since the system has gone fubar.

Edit: Now that I think about it, the problems started shortly after the last MS patchday (on the 14th). Maybe there is a connection? But if other people had problems with the updates we should've heard about it already.
