Well known are the legends of the young Arthur, who pulled the enchanted sword from the stone, united the war-torn land of Britannia, and gathered the Knights of the Round Table under his banner.
That story ended with Arthur securing peace in Camelot, aided by the might of the Holy Grail – and it is here that our own gruesome tale begins.
King Arthur II is a Role-playing Wargame, or, in other words, a unique blend of RPGs and strategy games.
The gameplay on the Campaign Map is turn-based and the battles are huge real-time assaults, where you can focus on choosing the right tactics in the heat of the battle.
You will see plenty of RPG elements as well – like Quests, also known as Knightly adventures, detailed character development, artifacts, and many more.

I think this game deserves it's own thread! Really looking forward to it.. the RPG and fantasy stuff really fits (reminds me of Warhammer: Dark Omen! awesome!) and it seems this game will actually work on release unlike Sword of the Stars 2, another recent paradox-published game.
You can play the prologue campaign right now if you preorder and it looks very promising.
It's still not as polished as total war but there's some meaningful improvements over the original which was very enjoyable despite it's quirks.
Should be out on 27th of january hopefully. can't wait to get my hands on the full campaign.
What do you guys think about it? Do you prefer the more realistic style of total war or do you enjoy the spellcasting, monsters and stuff that the fantasy setting brings?

Hopefuly they've improved on the battle aspect of the original. The campaign map/features were awesome but battles were one, big mess, mostly in terms of presentation.
they should not have spent time on the battles and removed them and focus on the lore and campaig map, instead of doing the opposite and skimming on campaign map options and kindgom management and work on this turd of a battle system ffs
i'm in beta and I've played the prologue campaign: the game its like the first king arthur in all its aspects.
some new addictions like the "magic shield" that will get depleted while casting spells over the player/enemy or bolstered with spells and artifacts; you cast a fireball that have a low spell penetration and the enemy got a medium magic shield protection, the fireball will "fizzle" and his magic shield will get lowered; if i cast a fireball and the enemy shield its low, the fireball will be correctly casted and fired.
The magic shield protection isn't a spell or an ability, it's always in the combat game like in this screen (top right and top left)
Spoiler:
for the story elements its well written as always and the rebus will get you rage over them!
if you like the first its a must buy, but beware: utterly fps performance in the prologue and in beta... don't know if it will be fixed on retail in 2-3 days.
It's been too long since I played the first game so I can't say for sure what changed, but it does look better. It's probably better shaders, better quality models and better post processing.
Might not be immediately apparent but it did improve for sure.
It's battle graphics definitely falls into the category of 'good enough' imo. And while it's still nowhere near the latest Total War iterations, total war doesn't have giant fucking trolls with trees for clubs and gargoyles swooping in and grabbing your soldiers...
And the campaign map looks gorgeous, especially with the different seasons and weather where it might snow or rain heavily.
My only gripe is that units still clump up in battle too much. I'd really like some more chaotic fighting instead of these solid frontlines of soldiers that fight shoulder to shoulder. I'll get over it though.

you can always just autoresolve the battles.
you're going to get through the game a lot quicker that way of course but I'm sure for some people it's just more enjoyable that way.
personally I feel like the battles don't work as well as total war battles, but they're still at least as enjoyable simply due to the spells, heroes (with their awesome magic equipment) and crazy creatures.
I just like seeing my hero kick ass with the sword I forged him..

Biggest problem with KA1 for me was without doubt the poor battle fluidity. Units would stick to each others like glue and many times they would clump up in huge clumps where only 10% of the units would actually swing their weapons. Also the morale system was just so boring, forcing you to quickly cap points or just lose despite having a superior army
Yup, if they didn't fix it in KA II this game will be still pos.
Sadly from what I've read on people who played the prelude the combat is still as bad as the first game luckily they removed the victory points at least. Seems like Archers still will ruin the game with poor melee combat also now with cast time, disruption and magic shield archers shouldn't die to one spell in 2 seconds like in the first game.
EDIT: Both this and dead legions have DX9, DX10 and DX11 exe files plus x86 and x64 files, nice, though apparently optimization is a bit dodgy in the Dead Legions release, don't know how the demo is.
The prologue at least, is unprotected (Gamersgate version is not Steam bound.) and it also shows how poor I've become with this type of game, first battle took two tries (I won both but the first victory was rather costly.) and the results still wasn't that great, RPG system has also improved though I did poorly there too but I'm improving quickly.
Combat is a bit chaotic but that's to be expected, as usual you can opt for a auto-resolve but in the first game this gave a 20% or so advantage to the enemy AI as a penalty so I'd not recommend using it too often if it's the same here, battle system is similar to Total War (You can adjust a number of things though and there's four difficulty levels from very easy which I started with to nightmare mode where normal tactics alone won't be enough or so it was described at least.)
Graphics are beautiful although certainly very demanding, no AA either but that SMAA "injector" can probably solve that, battle map saw ~30 FPS average and main campaign map around ~20 FPS average but again the Dead Legions is from the first release of the game back in early January so by now (Hopefully this is patched into the prologue.) the main game is likely much better, didn't try the demo yet as I started with the prologue directly.
Sound is good and while voice acting could be improved it works OK as is with this narrative method to explain the events and happenings, story seems pretty interesting too as it follows many famous events back with the Roman invasion of Britain yet with the whole Arthur mythology added to it, not seen much in the prologue though but it's probably expanded upon later on, I just started after all.
The main game is now available, uses a serial key but that alone doesn't tell me what copy protection they're using.
EDIT: The game is 16 GB also.
EDIT: Demo exe files were dated 22nd January, prologue exe files were dated 6th January, hopefully the full game here is similar to the demo thus (ideally) better optimized and less buggy.
(My prologue character is currently "forever alone" as he can't move at all after completing the little tutorial section, we're about a hundred turns in and enemies just walk between two waypoints, most everything built and researched and strong diplomatic ties to all roman aligned regions but my character still can't move at all.)
Weird,I see no cursor in the main menu and the game crashes during campaign loading screen. :/
hmm...hoping it's a bug fixed soon. Loved the first game so I automatically bought this.
