I don't know much about intel cpus and the likes. However I've been trying to find a cheap alternative to bringing gaming with me when I go back to my hometown and visit my buddies which are all gamers as well. I just found this on craigslist for 250.

Gateway has been known for making really good "Gaming" laptops. I know the hardware is a lil dated but for gaming on the go I don't care too much and I know the 8800 can still run a large handful of games just fine. My 8800GT still can run anything out there at LEAST on medium.
However what I have no experience with is the 1.6GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T5450, and obviously I can upgrade the CPU later on if I need to.
I'd more than likely be playing stuf like L4D2 and probably BF3. My buddy has an AMD X2 6000+ which was a pile of crap and it runs BF3 pretty well and I know the core 2 duo's bunched AMD's am2 series in the crotch pretty hard.

I'd say go with an XPS 15 l502x or XPS 15z. Their i5 models should be enough, with an nV GPU. 
Also, their build quality is superb, and audio quality of the speaks is surprising.
Before anyone says how the cheap Dells are cheap, this is the XPS series.

the XPS 15z only has a GT 525m, i myself have a GT 520m, wich isn't that good of a card for gaming tbh.
It does it's job on 720p (low/med graphics), but any higher and you get raped.
