One can contribute to the world without throwing your cash away to stupid things like sick or hungary children on some continent no one cares about.
Steve Jobs has contributed industrial design to the world in the form of iMacs and iPhones. He contributed taste to the world - in a BIG way! He contributed culture to the world with his products. He has contributed proportionally-spaced fonts (by bundling them in Mac after licensing them and/or copying from beautiful books)! 
And of course, unlike any fame-seeking "philanthropists", he has done it secretly.
Anyone can just throw billions at some insignificants and smile for the camera. |
