|
 |
So ever since Terraria came out I discovered I can't get this file to ever update. I can install net framework 4 and it SHOULD update it but apparently, regardless of the thousands of people all over that are having this issue, Microsoft still haven't fixed the installer. Before I had everything installed, games, drivers everything, it wouldn't update, someone said it was because the file was in use. I did some custom install of the files overwriting them but it causes errors in other programs like catalyst.
I just reinstalled windows and first thing I did was install .net framework 4 hoping nothing would be using it, guess what file still didn't get updated..... mscoree.dll!!!
Anyone have any idea as to why this file is being such a rebel? I've got friends who install it normally and it works just fine.
I'm not running a pirated windows either. Running Ultimate 7 X64 retail

It is like I envisioned dotnet.fuckworks doesn't work. But I guess there are still solutions outside there to replace the file in some kind of DOS mode.

Yep.
There are ways to replace the file manually but then programs like Catalyst and others that use it seem to go ape shit on me.

You're trying to install it through WU or manually?

It's Windows Update. Some updates appear after previous ones have been installed.

I don't have any updates for anything other than stuff that's unrelated like monitor drivers.
I tried installing it in safe mode but that was a big fail lol...can't install stuff in safe mode apparently

nope. The issue is all over the web though especially in reference to indie games like Terraria and that space sandbox game.
I mean I KNOW how to manually replace the files myself but everytime I do that, it breaks something else.

would it by any chance be the ISO that I'm using to install windows? Is there anywhere where I can get the newest iso from MS or anything? I have a legit key if they need me to provide it.

that's what I did last night. Someone mentioned one of the versions they were using from MS was an older ISO or something and when they got a newer one everything was working just fine.

I've installed numerous times the RTM version of Windows (and that's possibly the oldest stable version) and everything updates normally. You're only left to contact their support. Don't think they'll shut the door in your face if you ask for an ISO since you're a legal customer.

It's the only thing I can even think of. I don't understand what makes my system so different that everyone elses that they can update their's just fine. It'd have to be something with windows. What else would it be?

With the help of Moosenoodles I think I finally found the issue.
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/pmarcu/archive/2011/07/27/net-framework-4-setup-reports-success-but-mscoree-dll-is-not-updated.aspx
Most specifically the part about the trusted installer at the end
Quote: | SpykeZ: I've seen many reports of people having a build number of v6.1.7600.16384 which is one number below the released build. I'm really curious how people would have gotten this build of the OS. The fact that its so close to the final build makes me wonder if it could have been accidentally released somehow. Please let me know if you got it through an official supported channel and its the wrong version.
SpykeZ: that's the build number of my trusted installer |
I don't remember where I got my ISO but it's old as hell and I think it was around the time it was released so it's possible it was a pre-release ISO I've been using ever since lmao
