People never believe me when I tell them a mouse can make or break your skill. Especially the resistance on the mouse buttons themselves. I absolutely love my deathadder.

Seriously?
This is my setup.
Keyboar on lap, sitting on the ground, playing with my lenovo mouse from work on an ALDI advertisement print that is on top of a upside-down laundry basket.
You don't even want to imagine what I'd do to your asses if I could get myself to finally go for a gaming mouse and a mouse pad...

Sin317 wrote: | dpi, feet/s , x/g ... all those numbers mean nothing and are purely PR.
the explorer 3 has 400 dpi by default, reducing the sensitivity like i do, i am probably at 100-150 dpi.
5600 dpi is like3 screens per inch moved ... who uses that lol ?
people think dpi = precision .. wrong.
for example the explorer 3 refreshes at a rate of 9000 frames per second. THATS precision
also the sensor being in the center and not in the front part of the mouse helps a lot |
Talk about marketing bullshit. 9000 FPS? Impressively useless, since you can only get 1000Hz polling through Windows (so that's 1000 "FPS") and your Intelli 3.0 can only do 500 as far as I know
And DPI indeed doesn't equal precision, but DPI + sensitivity does. I'm a twitch gamer at heart and I use proper arm movements just like you, not wrist movements. Taking HL/CS or Q3 as an example (both respond 100% identical to mouse input), at 400 DPI I'd be using a sensitivity of about 3.0 IIRC. With my MX-518 (1600 DPI) I already had that dropped down to just above 1.0, G5 (2000) I was at 1.0. Nowadays at 5700 DPI in GoldSrc/Source I have it at 0.55 or so. Lowering sensitivity doesn't lower its DPI, it lowers how much it responds to that.
Why does it in fact matter? Because your mouse will be skipping less of your movements as DPI goes up and sensitivity goes down - your Intelli feels so good to you because it's in fact not picking up half of your movements, a higher DPI would require you to set sensitivity even lower. Unfortunately, some games still suck at dealing with mouse input properly, so even at their lowest sensitivities I end up reducing to 800 DPI or less
Oh and I can't stand the Intelli. Apart from the fact that its shape and buttons are just uncomfortable to me, the 1.x and 2.x were so fucking bad (as are most of their mice for that matter) that I'll never use one again. They needed a 100% evenly coloured surface otherwise they'd spaz out like crazy

Now who's falling for marketing bullshit.
The Explorer 3 default USB polling rate is 125Hz. That's your true [lack of] precision. Especially at low DPI, the higher polling rate the better.
And with Explorer 3, you need to hack the driver to reach a theoretical maximum of 500Hz, which sometimes causes negative acceleration effect. While Logitech and Razer go natively to 1000Hz.

I'm a fan of Razer mice myself, tried a few Logitechs years ago, but they always felt too big, too heavy and simply not comfortable for me. That's because most logitech mice need you to place your entire hand on them, and move your whole arm for gaming. I like using only the tip of my fingers on the mice, that's why my trusty razer copperhead pawns face. I never move my arm, only my wrist, and back in the day, I've played CSS competitively with this setup (2000 dpi & ~6.5 sensitivity in game). That would equate to about, what 5-6 cm per 180? Basically I can do a 360 with my aim staying steady at both ends without lifting the mouse. But I do re-centre after each turn to maximalize precision anticipating a confrontation.
Also, when I changed from my previous mouse to the copperhead (previous being an mx518 - iirc) I felt like I became a shooter demigod, it felt so good. Took around 2 weeks to readjust, had a hard time at the beginning tbh, but after those two weeks, aiming heads seemed effortless, whilst I struggled with it before.

its because i use and abuse my mices for 2-3 years a piece, everyday. as good as a mouse is, it still gets used and then the quality drops eventually. In the current case, the pads are moving around because the glue doesnt hold them anymore lol.
PS : thats normal.

I am using a Pentium 100MHz for 15 years, anyone who has newer equipment is not a gamer.
Sorry Sin317, you can not be a gamer if you only have the 10 year old mouse, I'm using the microsoft white mouse with a BALL inside, now THAT is some serious gamer usage, you are only half-leet for using your current mouse.
Also, my monitor is 16 years old, and that makes me such an amazing gamer, anyone who doesn't have all of this is not a gamer, period.
Also, you are not a gamer if you don't live in Sweden.
Sucks to be you guys. Did I mention that I'm 33 years old? If you aren't 33 years old, you aren't a gamer.
Guys. GUYS!
Yes, yes I'm back.
Somewhat.
