Welcome to this short but simple introductory guide for getting your XBOX 360 glitched, some (or most) of this stuff applies to a JTAG'ed 360 as well, so if you just got your JTAG you could probably use this guide for this.
1. What does a "GLITCH"-hack do really?
In layman's terms (who wants the hard explanation anyways?) Basically it modifies your XBOX 360, "glitching" it so that it can run non-legit/approved software. This means that you for instance can:
1. Install games on your XBOX 360 hard drive and play them without the disc
2. Put games on an external USB-drive and run them from that
3. Play XBOX LIVE (XBLA)-games
4. Install linux on your XBOX
5. Run emulators (NES, SNES, PSONE, Gameboy, Gameboy advanced, etc.) and play games for other consoles
6. Install movie codecs and eg. watch MKV-files directly from your box
7. Make your XBOX available on your local network so you can eg. copy files from your PC/MAC to it via FTP or network share or similarly download items from your XBOX to your PC/MAC
2. Can I get my 360 "glitched"?
Most likely, yes. The majority of XBOX 360-consoles out there can be glitched. At least every console made prior to august 2011, definitely: Falcon, Jasper, Zephyr and Trinity.
If your console was made later or you are unsure of your model, there is a great way of finding out if your console is compatible by checking: Manufacture date and voltage (see this guide for more help: http://www.360-hq.com/xbox-tutorials-81.html )
3. How or where do I get my 360 "glitched"?
IMPORTANT:
Make sure that whoever glitches your 360 gives you your CPUKEY, tells you what MAKE of 360 you have (eg. Jasper, Falcon, etc.) and a copy of your original NAND.
If you are in Sweden (like me) you have chipper.se and psxcare.com - these guys are expensive as hell, but if you don't know how to solder they are the way to go. By having them perform it you also get a "failsafe", eg. if your glitch fails you have support from them, this is especially useful if you don't know a lot about soldering or aren't that familiar with modern tech and/or software. If you are not from Sweden and want it done I recommend a google on "reset glitch hack <country>" and check the results.
Having your 360 glitched like this will make it banned from XBOX-live, ie. you will not be able to play multiplayer via Microsoft's network, but there are ways to play multiplayer anyways (XLINK KAI) check it here: http://www.teamxlink.co.uk/
4. Is it legal?
It's a grey area. On one hand you are able to do whatever the hell you want with your hardware, but the stuff you will do with it (like downloading pirated games, installing them there) is not. I do not condone illegal activities, this is for information purposes only. Don't blame me if you live in the land of democracy and the "free" and the feds bust you for doing what you want to.
5. OK, I have my glitched box - what now?
Being able to upgrade your dashboard
If you didn't glitch your box yourself, you will need to learn how to upgrade your NAND (because if you did, you are already advanced enough not to have to read this guide - silly), every once in a while Microsoft decides to change their software (known as dashboard) to try and make it difficult for pesky "law breakers", basically a lot of new games that come will require this new dashboard version, which makes it necessary for you to know how to do it.
The ways of doing this will be ever changing, as of now (2012-02-11) you can pretty much type in "how to update your rgh" in youtube and there will be a guide such as this:
If you don't have your CPU-KEY -AND/OR- if you don't have your original NAND-dump, you have to go advanced mode and follow the below guide:
Updating the NAND again... (May 2012 update)
1. You need your CPU-key and your old NAND (look above how to get them).
2. You need the 360 Multibuilder (360_Multi_Builder_v0.94 or above (google it))
3. Put your old NAND (named nanddump.bin (not nanddump.bin.bin)) in the \360 Multi Builder\Data\_my_Images folder
4. Put your CPU-key in a text-file called cpukey.txt (not cpukey.txt.txt) in that same folder
5. Run the main program "Run.exe" in the root folder 360 Multi Builder\Run.exe
6. Follow the on-screen instructions
7. You will now have a updflash.bin-file in 360 Multi Builder\Data\_my_Images, this is your new NAND
8. Put that file and Flash360 on a USB-stick and get to your XBOX360
9. Open XeXmenu and browse to your USB-stick (any other file tool works as well), run flash360
10. Follow the instruction, press A a couple of times and choose to keep your current config.
11. If you geet an unmatched ZeroPair error, this is OK, press START and then A to keep going
12. Your NAND will update, under no circumstance interrupt this process while it is updating or you will brick your 360
13. When done, shut down your XBOX and pull the power cable from the XBOX for 60 seconds.
14. Boot it up, you will have a fresh NAND
15. If you want the avatars, download the avatars (google avatars <your dash version (eg. 14719)) and put them on a USB-stick in the root in a "$SystemUpdate"-folder
16. When your 360 wants to update (from the USB), choose YES and follow the instructions. All done.
So... how do I play copied games and... all that stuff you spoke of earlier?
Usually when you get your 360 after it has been glitched it will have software installed for it that makes so you can run games directly from the 360 harddrive OR an external USB-drive. There's a couple of programs you need to know about:
FSD (Freestyle dashboard)
Basically a version of the original dashboard (also known as NXE) that scans your "pirate" folders for copied games, xbla, homebrew (user made programs), emulators, etc. and is able to run them.
XEXMENU
Similar to the above with a more primitive (less user-friendly) interface, for whatever reason this program usually is installed on glitched 360'ies (and you need to install the above).
FLASH360
An application you use to dump or update your NAND. (a NAND contains among other things the dashboard)
ISO2GOD
A PC application that converts an XBOX 360 game ISO to a GOD-file that eg. XEXMENU or FSD can use.
XBOX IMAGE BROWSER
A PC application that extracts the content of an XBOX 360 game ISO into a folder (eg. your external USB-drive) and makes it playable
6. Are there any absolute "don't do this"?
As I'm writing this I can come to think of one: NEVER, EVER, UNDER -ANY- circumstance install an official dashboard update after you've glitched your xbox 360. No matter what a guide tells you, or your own console, or such. A game you're playing may ask you if it can update/upgrade your XBOX, never do this, never download a new "firmware" from Microsoft and apply it to your 360. It will just make for a bunch of unneeded extra hard work.

SECTION II
------------------------------------ -
7. Preparing your external USB-drive
After you've purchased your external USB-drive to use with your glitched XBOX-360 I advice you to use this program to format it:
Basically it can format any sized drive (yes, even 2TB+) into FAT32 (which is the format you want to use for your XBOX360).
After you've formatted it, you will need to make a basic folder structure for your files, such as:
Applications/
Content/
Games/
Homebrew/
Movies/
I usually place software like the Flash360-app in "Applications", I then create sub folders in the "Content"-folders for each game and put the contents of the extracted ISO-images in them, like so:
Extract your game files for eg. batman here:
Content/Batman/
8. Making XBLA-games work
I usually put all my XBLA-games on the same external harddrive that I put my regular games in. However I use the official program structure. When you download an XBLA-game it will come with a folder that is named like so: "58410847", place this folder in your content subfolder (like this)
Content/0000000000000000/58410847
to be able to make FSD (that I use for this) able to detect these games I setup a path for the games in the settings options, FSD then scans all the folders for these games and will list all the XBLA as needed
===============================================
XeBuild v1.03 works with all versions of the dashboard up to 15574 currently.

nice quide, I love this hack I have now 2 Jaspers and 1 Falcon. all glitched.. the soldering is a joke I can do it with my eyes closed now.
gonna do a slim soon.. will see if i can get one second hand as in the store you won't get any glitchable one.. Carona is not yet glitchable.
hardware hack>software hack
they really need to create some sort of glitch hack for ps3
In all fairness, I'll be jumping on the RGH bandwagon once a dual nand make's an appearance.
I'll be picking myself up a nice matte slim console for the best of both worlds, live gaming and a glitched console.
This is very good! Thanks fisk. I won't do this but who knows when it might come in handy
3080, ps5, lg oled
Sin317-"im 31 years old and still surprised at how much shit comes out of my ass actually ..."
SteamDRM-"Call of Duty is the symbol of the true perfection in every aspect. Call of Duty games are like Mozart's/Beethoven's symphonies"
deadpoetic-"are you new to the cyberspace?"
perhaps you should update the first part.. at this moment all consoles with the latest dashboard (14717 ) can not be RGH anymore.. it does look good for Slim..(Trinity model voltage at back side should say 12Volt --10,83A) for fat xbox its not certain that they can enable it again.
on slims its dissabled to that so called fix that they have require you to have your CPU key so its fixed only for already rgh SLIM consoles.. I don't call that a fix.
edit: its now 100% fixed for slim no key required

wtf I just contacted a glitcher who lives near me and they said my fat from 2006 cannot be glitched...!!!
Ah... if you have a 360 that doesn't have HDMI, then no, it can't be glitched. If it DOES have HDMI, then the guy is incorrect Though Xecuter are working on a Xenon hack, if memory serves.
Not stuffed, just on hold for a little bit Xecuter haven't let anyone down yet and if they say their DemoN works on Xenon/no-HDMI/HANA machines, then it does Just have to be patient for a bit and see what turns up.
There is 1 xbox model (Opus) that does not has hdmi and is possible to glitch but that model was released end of 2007 or 2008 so its very unlikely that you have that model..unless you send it to MS for repair and they replaced your motherboard?
Signature/Avatar nuking: none (can be changed in your profile)
