And what lens? I know a lot of you have it, but responses are scattered through various topics and its hard to get some information.

Planning to buy one, somewhat by the end of the year. My budget will be limited probably ro $1000, so canon 60D is out of the question. with a lense 18-200mm that I wanted to get. If I get any more cash, but as of right now. Only looking at Nikon D5100 or Canon T3i.

I have a Canon 5D Mark II and my most used lens is the 24-70mm 2,8L.

never ever get one of that kind, the image quality is beyond shitty. for DSLR starters, i'd suggest getting the usual 18-55mm kit lens + a 50-200mm one.

i myself have a canon 400D, still doing its job wonderfully.

is your budget limit for the camera alone or for cam+lenses+stuff? if it's the latter, don't blow it all on the camera alone, instead get a cheaper one and decent lenses/accessories. yes you can get a canon 60D for a bit above 1000€ if you shop around, but it only starts to shine with good (= expensive in most cases) lenses.
