Hy guys, can anyone recommend a good tutorial for overclocking this cpu ?

Im not having much issues at stock,2.8 ghz,but i think it can do much more.Right now im idling at 30-40 degrees, and when stressed 49 max.

I know how to overclock black edition AMD's,but this has the multi locked,so im clueless, any help is apreciated.

I also have an aftermarked cooler on it,an Asus Triton, old but it has served me well.

Btw,i have in my system a radeon 5770,also stock,my main reason for ocing,is that i think it will give my GPU some breathing room, maybe ?

No need for double post Wink

And I would like to second his question though. I have an Athlon II X4 640 but with stock cooler. Also locked multi. Should I go for a new CPU or is it possible to get some more out of it? Werelds already recommended an after market cooler.

AMD's are easy to OC but once you hit that 58C mark they start getting to be a pain in the ass.

OC'ing on AMD cpu's can be a bit different with AMD since you have to worry about the northbridge to play with as well as the HTT.

http://www.overclock.net/amd-general/792461-amd-overclocking-guides-essential-threads.html

Everything you could possibly need is in that post.

Anything on stock cooling you won't get much more OC out of it. You'll need an after market. I highly recomment the Corsair Hydro series coolers. Completely sealed "water cooler" that does an amazing job with keeping temps down and the hot air immediately expelled out of your case instead of inside like most tower coolers. I use the H-50 and almost got my 965 to 4.0ghz.

Essentially for locked multi, you'll want to up your FSB up little increments at a time till it fails, push a little bit of V on it then try again. At some point you'll have to turn your memory speeds back down because if you push up your FSB it's going to raise the speeds of other stuff too.

I never remember AMD being so bitchy about temperature. Mine eaches 61~62°C while playing BF 3

Sausje, somethings mighy wrong in that case.
I had to buy a non-stock cooler for my old AMD 940 and as soon as I did I managed to push it to 3.5Ghz with temps around 30-35 idle and 40-50 on load.... Surprised

My current 970 @ 4.1Ghz is now idling around 38-40 and doesn't go above 55c on heavy load... Surprised
Get a new cooler dude. Sad

Or you have just fucked up sensors Very Happy Even stock cooler will not go that high if its properly installed Very Happy

@ shakabutt: Overclocking multiplier locked processors is pretty tricky sometimes, because you need to have pretty good mobo (its all about FSB overclocking, and mobos have their limits especially cheap ones).

Raise FSB until the PC is unstable, then up the voltage and repeat (Linx/Prime 95 is good program to see stability). 1.45v should be safe for 24/7 atleast. These Phenom II x4 are known to handle pretty much any voltage you throw to them as long temps are under 65c at load. But im pretty sure your cooler isnt ready for over 1.4-1.45v.

You also need to play with your memory settings for extra stability. Also not to mention, every chip is different for overclocking. I had SICK 1055T, got it in first batch could overclock it to 4.1Ghz with 1.4v which was fucking awesome (pretty much best you could have).

Still, i dont really care about that cpu anyway, as it is my second pc.
But like i said, i ran summer 2010 this thing with 80 degrees during gaming, not a single problem.

Even guys from AMD themself said that 80 was quite normal for the Phenom 2 x4 955BE

Lol i know Phenom II are fighters, but come on 80c is too much (maybe for previous gen intels this is pretty normal) Very Happy. My 1055T bluescreened asap when socket temperature was 72c (about 62c in the processor, sensors were like 10c off on thubans).

But yeah thubans were little different. But still 80c!!1 Very Happy

Well, i dont know if its true or not, i only know my own experience with it, wich in my case it works still just fine.

This pic was taking a long time ago, when it was still my main pc:

 Spoiler:

it was running 65 IDLE back then >.>

stats from winter 2010 (wich its cold here in this room)
http://www.kzn-clan.nl/aida_logs_2010-11-20_00-42-13_stat.htm

71 degrees, just during CoD matches.

(that test was done back when i had my GTX470, to proof it overheat to 110 degrees)

Nah, i think the airflow in that case is just really shit (NZXT Apollo)

But like i said, its my second pc, im not that bothered anymore.

For now it still works flawless, and when it breaks down.. well too bad then.. Razz

Ok i think ive hit a milestone, managed to reach a peak for the reference clock at 240,everything above and it freezes into bluescreen.Im not gonna juice my MB so thats the limit.CPU is now 3.35 ghz,and i tweaked the NB and ram timmings and freq to match closely my stock speeds,1 hour in OCCT medium data set so far with no problems at 45 celsius, how long should i stress ?

Edit : NVM just crashed.Gonna bump up the vcore to 1.4

Strange that i didnt crashed in another test with the same cpu freq but with small data set test

Omg why the hell is my Vcore bouncing all arround the place,i set it 1.375 in the Bios and in OCCT linpack it stays at 1.4 sometimes spikes to 1.47,should i be worried ot what the hell ? Abort mission ?

Temps are after 20 minutes of linpacks 45 celsius, but im freezing my ass in this weather lol Smile

Edit : My asrock OC tuner says cpu temp is 45 celsius,OCCT and HWmonitor have my cores at max 40 celsius, wich one is correct ?
