My son has suddenly got a new craze for manga cartoons, he is currently watching some crap called virus buster serge. Anyway he has asked me to grab him some more stuff, but I do not have a clue what would be suitable for a 12 yr old. I know a lot of this stuff is really sad and borders on perversion, so would like a bit of advice on what to d/l for him?
Please bear in mind he is not yet a spotty testosterone breast obsessed 14 yr old so I would prefer something suitable for kids. Full length films or episodic cartoons, full English no subs..cheers.
It's been a very long while since I last watched anime, but here's a few I think your son might like (you might have to hunt down English dub versions, I always watched them with subtitles):
Spirited Away (movie)
One of the best movies from Miyazaki, very much a children's movie, but still enjoyable for grownups. It's about a girl who get transported into a dreamlike world and has to work in a bathhouse. A real classic.
Cowboy Bebop (series)
It's about a group of interplanetary bounty hunters. It's humorous, action packed and has great characters. Also a classic.
Howl's Moving Castle (movie)
Another Miyazaki masterpiece.
Samurai Champloo (series)
IIRC it's from the same guys that made Cowboy Bebop, but instead of jazz/blues kind of music, it mainly uses rap and hip-hop. And of course instead of interplanetary bounty hunters, it's about two samurai and a girl in the Edo period.
Tokyo Godfathers (movie)
A movie about three homeless people (a guy, a transvestite and a girl) who find a baby in the trash and try to find out what to do with this little Christmas miracle (fuck, that was cheesy ).
Full Metal Panic (series with 3 seasons)
A mecha series. The first one season is a tad serious with comedy thrown in sometimes, the second season is almost entirely comedy based (has some really funny episodes) and the third one may be a bit too dark for small kids but my memory is a bit spotty.
(Second season trailer)
The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (movie)
If time travel isn't a mind bending concept to your kid, you might want to give this one a go. It's mainly a high school comedy movie with some romance thrown in. One of my favorites.
I think all of them should have English voice overs.
I have my "every watched anime" list and out of a 105, these are the ones that either aren't too violent (like Ninja Scroll), complicated (Neon Genesis Evangelion) or even childish (yeah, I watched some pretty "interesting" anime back when I was a regular viewer).
Signature/Avatar nuking: none (can be changed in your profile)
