So I just got my galaxy S2 and I'm loving it.
However I've seen that there are a bunch of good "homemade" android roms out there.
I've tried out CyanogenMod7 on my moms HTC HD2 and it's great, able to customize just about everything I can think of.

Thing is, are there any other roms that you guys can recommend me to try out?

I've heard that battery time is semi-poopy on CM7, or is that just not true?

there's a ton of varying roms but CM is simply the biggest and thus best tested
so i would recommend taking CM as the starting point and fiddling with it to get to what you want
changing kernels and such
what is it exactly you want to change?

Well, basically I want stock just with more customization options...
I found that CM7 didn't have market or kies air (which I both like) so I tried reflashing the fucker and guess what, I bricked it. Sad

Took me about two hours to get it all sorted but it's now set back to stock. Sad

Kies is Samsung's proprietary shit?

The market is in CM7 just fine though, or do Samsung have a market of their own? Still, don't see the point of that either if I'm honest.

Yeah, Kies is samsungs own software... let's me connect to the phone through the network. If you can recommend me something similar then that'll be cool. Smile

I guess I didn't search hard enough for the market in CM7, just didn't find it...

lol, I might actually try and reflash it to CM7 again then. Surprised

market and other google apps are in cm but you have to install them separately, cos they are google proprietary software and can't legally be distributed in the same package
1. wipe system
2. flash cm
3. flash gapps ( http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Latest_Version#Google_Apps )
4. party

I have a untouched SGS2. What are the exact steps that I need to perform to get Cyanogen Mod on my phone. And how stable is it and is it missing features? If yes, which? Some months ago there weren't even nightlies out for this one...

Yup, I missed that in my first flash.

This time I did a proper one and got all the gapps. Awesome

So CM7 it is... ^_^

Well, I bought the rom manager premium which let's you dl the nightly versions onto your phone but I guess you can do it manually.

I followed these steps to get it to work after I got root permission:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1176411

PS
Also if you run into problems where you try and boot the phone into CWM recovery when trying to do so through rom manager then start CWM and edit the update.zip.
This should enable you to directly enter CWM recovery where you can finish the "installation".

This one is a pretty straightforward guide....

http://www.posthem.com/2011/05/01/root-samsung-galaxy-s2-i9100-android-2-3-3-howto/

You only need the latest superclick software though.
