My issue is simple. The ONLY reason I still keep XP in dual-boot on my PC is that games that run perfectly fine in XP on my rig, on 7, even with the same framerate, they stutter. From a little, to a lot. And it really gets annoying. Even after all this years of keeping up-to-date with drivers, making sure I exclude games from my AV etc etc, I still get better gaming performance on my rig in XP. And before you go talking about DX11 being heavier than DX9, I'm even talking about DX9 games.

So, has anyone had this? Any solutions to the stuttering so that I can finally get rid of XP?

i actually found that games like wow ran alot more smooth in win 7.

you should try to install windows 7 but not use any tweaks to make sure you dont break anything , install sound , video, chipset drivers and try to run your games.

I can't have a properly clean install. My rig is used for things other than gaming, like uni assignments, programming, etc. Both Windows XP and 7 are loaded with about the same kind of tools I use, because I can't bother to wait for a reboot.

But even in the same environment, XP trumps 7 in terms of gaming performance. It has its limitations, still, as I can't play Civ V on a huge map in XP as it runs out of memory, but games like NBA 2K or FIFA or COD play with much less stutter in XP, if any.

are your specs up to par? especially having 4GB is mandatory for gaming in win7. that said do you use 64bit?

Yes, 4GB of memory (read my sig), and yes, 64-bit Win7 against 32-bit WinXP.

yeah i got sigs disabled.

To properly troubleshoot one would need to need a fresh win7 install with all updates , maybe got a spare harddrive around to use it for?

You have E6750 as a CPU. I had this one three years ago (maximum overclocked to 3.6GHz - I kept it mainly at 3.4GHz). Used it under Vista. I had the same stuttering as the one you're now describing. Let's take GRID, for example. I fire it up, the framerate is solid but, every now and then, I have this 1-2-second drag/stutter/delay between frames. It would happen in other games as well. The OS was up-to-date, all drivers (audio, chipset, video) were to their latest versions, and the only qualitative solution I found was to turn off all power-saving features (EIST and C1E) of the processor in the BIOS. Seems that these frequency shifts the CPU does between idle and load take effect on the application currently running on. I see you've done overclocking too, so go ahead and do that, and report back what happened (take note that the CPU will now always stay at its set frequency).

I've run all shorts of superold games in win7. I don't believe it sometimes.

Most recent success was Halcyon Sun. It runs fine. Who has even heard of it ? And newer games run great, end of story.

I gamed on Vista and 7 with a C2D E6600 @ 3GHz and had no problems. Once the drivers caught up, Win7 has always been better for gaming.

Thing is that I had the same CPU and Mobo combination as he does now, and experienced these stutters. It's probably something due to that fact.

In that case, he can try to use RMClock to lock the frequency adn see if that's the problem.
