What is it with chumps from the UK of all places having so horrible spelling? Especially appalling is how often people with English not their first language spell so much better.

No whats meant is they cannot speak English which is the first thing you should grasp when moving to England, its not asking to much.
It's the evolution of language. As long as you can understand it, it's all cool. Moment you can't, then it's bad. A lot of people have learned English through broken English and through the new 'version' of English. It has opened communication with people across the globe. Anyone can go through thousands of posts and find mistakes that these 'so called' grammar nazis, spelling nazis once or twice have made themselves.
Must of's are phonetic mistakes. People heard those phrases before they've read them. It's all cool. Authors and journalists are paid to be grammatically correct. We are not. \o/

people make mistakes on essays, reports, hand written letters, emails, anything professional. the quality of language is constantly dropping. but people can still communicate.
