Focus Home Interactive has unveiled a downloadable Hack'n Slash entitled R.A.W. - Realms Of Ancient War. Planned for a Q1 2012 release on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360, the game developed by WizarBox will offer 30 levels and a 2-players co-op mode. Here are a trailer and some images.
The first 2 look like Mageslayer (I remember that I played that when I was a kid, but I'm not sure how much). It also looks like that other game that I searched for years and couldn't find it. It was top-down like that, but with 2 or 3 characters, it had a dark fantasy setting if I remember right. Because of the setting I kept confusing it with Dark Vengeance I think (yeah, I know, that was something completely different, but the games were also pretty much from the same time). Anyway, Gauntlet Legends also seems interesting, though from what I see it changed quite a lot from the previous games.
GL kept the exact same style of play (spawning monsters, monster lairs, keys, potions, food, 4 player co-op) but added some minor RPG elements as well as 3D visuals. It was also one of the first non-NeoGeo arcades to have a save-game feature. Gauntlet 2 was a blast as a child, though, man I loved that game.
Oh and yeah, I believe Gauntlet was the basis for Mageslayer =)
Gauntlet was arguably my favorite classic game, spent an absurd amount of quarters on it. I also got I&II on the NES. I never really got into Legends on N64 because it didn't quite have that classic Gauntlet gameplay. I remember playing Mageslayer and it was definitely inspired by Gauntlet. I also remember another Gauntlet homage called Get Medieval developed by Monilith if i remember correctly, it was pretty fun as well. This RAW game looks a little closer to Diablo style than classic Gauntlet, to me anyhow.

Sorry for bumping this thread for no reason, but I just found what game that was (at least I think so). I'm pretty sure it was this:
It seems I know Gauntlet even though I don't actually know it , since this seems to actually be a Gauntlet clone. If R.A.W. is anything like these, it will be absolutely awesome and I hope so. Also, if I bumped this thread, I might as well ask this: are there any news about this since we last posted here?

Get Medieval was a blast when it came out. Gameplay was nearly *exactly* like Gauntlet with a bucketload of humor thrown in for fun. Loved it but haven't played it for probably 12-13 years.
With what character did you play Sabin? I didn't really have problems with those thieves while playing a bit with the archer to test the game. I can understand why they made you so angry, they steal all the upgrades you gathered in a under a second once they're close to you, thanks to their cheating speed . The mask of fear helps a lot because it scares them and they run into a corner where you can kill them easily, though it's not really a common item.

FemWarrior Aye, their ridiculously cheating speed - as well as zig-zagging when running away - was infuriating. I was lv5 on both weapon and shield and bam, stolen. Then that one level where every other chest had a thief in it... arghhhh. Too much for me, the annoyance starts outweighing the enjoyment.
The game definately has flaws but I still think it's a damn brilliant game. I used to love it as a kid and then it got lost and forgot it's name. What would be nice... a remake made by some indie studio and by remake I don't mean to be changed completely, just updated graphics, support for what needs support since the game got released, some more content, some tweaks to fix some stuff maybe, like the thieves. So what I mean is pretty much bring the game up to date and polish what needs to be polished. That would be really nice and it would be nice for other games too, of course, but we're not seeing anything like that so far. Let's just hope that this game will be great.
