1+(1/4)*(4-2) = 3/2
1+1/(4*(4-2)) = 9/8

You cannot under any circumstance, read "1+1/4(4-2)" as "1+1/(4(4-2))". Multiplication and division are of the same rank.

no it cant be 1..the rule is (), then multiply and divide next, then add and subtract.
if a situation arises that there are 2 equal powers to be factored of equal importance, you read left to right and do them in that order. so you do the 1/4 THEN the *2
its called BEDMAS, BIDMAS, BODMAS, BERDMAS, PERDMAS, PEMDAS, and BPODMAS...or a lot of thing actually depending where your from..(I had to wiki to find all the other ones, I only know it as one of them but knew there was others)
but same rules different acronyms. i learned it as BODMAS
(Brackets,Orders,Divide,Multiply,Add,Subtract)
so 1 + 1/4(4-2) you do:
(4-2)=2
you get:
1+1/4*2
following the left right rule you do
1/4 THEN *2
so
1/4 = 0.25
then
0.25*2=0.5
1+0.5= 1.5
