It's 5 am and I am watching tv, most people sleep at this particular hour but not me, I even think I am jealous . It's probably because the epic exam that i have to pass, and that is going to occur in like 10 days .

The strange thing is that I don't feel tired at all, and I didnt take any red bull or coke .

WAKE UP YOU SILLY SLEEPING PERSONS !!!!

I can't get to sleep either. It's 03:31 here. I have stayed awake for more than 24 hours the other day to try and get back into a normal sleeping pattern but it didn't work.

that's a good 9 hours sleep. It sucks if you got little time for your own activities though.

Indeed, but I was on the same boat as b0se when I did not worked and had school only. I used to go to sleep anywhere from 1am-4am because I had classes from 5pm-11pm
I'm sure, I will go back to this same fucked up pattern when school starts again in September Razz

I can relate to this.. Not school though, but keeping a regular pattern if you don't have anything to do when you wake up, like going to school or work. It's damn near impossible, can manage it for a few days/week and then it starts to slide out again.

I dunno if it's sleeping pills i have, but they relax my body so it's easier to fall asleep. Haven't used them for a few days now.. Guess it worked using them for a few days to get my body used to sleeping at a certain point.

Worst thing you can do is take medication to get to sleep.
Either exerciseor yoga will cure it.

Real sleeping pills (or falling-asleep pills) aren't good since they replace the normal sleep reflexes which makes quitting the pills a real hell (it can cause a rebound effect making it impossible to sleep for days, something which may take weeks or even months to sort out).

Although, z-drugs (they help you fall asleep and then stop working while you sleep) can help in short-term situation, but it's imperative that they're not used every day, only once every now and then.

Kenny, I seem to remember you're using an anti-histamine to relax. Those are a lot better since they're not addictive and doesn't really cause rebound effects. The downside is that they can make you feel tired the day after. But they're basically harmless.

Yeah, i have noticed that. But it hasn't been anything i couldn't handle. My head is pretty clear, perhaps a bit drowsy when i wake up, and my body can feel a bit tired, but it goes away throughout the day. Atarax 10mg is what i'm using, well i havent used it for a couple of days now.

The pam pills (diazepam etc.) are addictive, they'll probably fuck you up. Melatonin regulates the biological clock without side effects, worth investigating I guess?

well, I can tell you guaranteed that you will fall asleep when your body really needs it. I am the type of person that needs 6.30-7h to be fully awake so i usually go to bed at 1-2AM. 8 is ok 9-10 makes me sleepy, then it easily becomes 12h in bed.

This week I had 2 univ exams and as an example student I got my books 1 weeks before the exams started (there are weekend and some catholic holidays FTW). Sleeping at 1AM, up at 6, study, go to work 9-6, eat, study, sleep, repeat. I finished exams today and look/feel like a zombie. I am pretty sure i will have a good night of sleep!

You probably have a late day rhitm and you being awake fucks you up and you become agitated and because it is 1-2AM you think you won;t have sleep and you stay up until 3-4-5 AM. Been there, instead of 1AM I am in bed at 2.30 or so, I worry I will be wreck in the morning, and it all of a sudden is 4AM and indeed a wreck the next day.

You should try to be mentally or physically active and go to bed at 12 or 1AM and get up at 7-8-9 depending on your needs and try to have some regular pattern. and DO something during the day. If you do nothing at all all day long, you dont need sleep. Wink

I know it is tempting as a student to be in bed during your exams, been there done that. Going to bed at 4AM and getting up at noon is also possible (that was my rhitm back in the days). Got up at noon, brunch, study from 2PM to 7-8PM. And then do some social stuff, 12AM i did some coding/webdevelopment/watching movie series, bed at 4AM. Disadvantage: exam at 8AM is a real pain in the arse then...
