whole computer was actng funky...kept freezing, games not working so i formatted. Got to 6% and it threw an error saying installation files couldnt be located. Last time this happenend i ran the console commmand through the windows recovery and ran some chkdsk command but cant remember what. It was. Tried chkdsk c:/ but said it couldnt open up the drive or whatever cause it was write protected??

You have a MoBo with Cougar Point chipset (H67 and P67 chipset)?

Sounds like failing RAM. Run memtest.
