Personally, Epsilon, I'm gonna have to go with Super Dimension Fortress Macross. One of my favourites. Edit: Tough choice for me tho Edit 2: Hey Epsilon, what are your favourite mecha based animations, or literature? Just curious.

The ones already mentioned obviously, but I have a special love for ATV; Armored Trooper Votoms. Maybe because it was the first one I saw, but I still find it quite unique despite the age.
Theres also Neon Genesis: Evangelion, but thats more of a matter of philosophy specifically existentialism.

Ah yes Evangelion. I enjoyed Evangelion quite a bit, same reason as yourself, I love how it focused on existentialism. This is personally why I loved Xenogears, just the story itself revolved around humans, why we are here, the existence of life and death, and of course, the existence of our creator.
