they both presscots so prepair to heatattack Razz

I would go with 478 cause 775 is not totaly optimized & there is no perfomance boost & cause i ouw similiar 478 config Rolling Eyes
For me it's like same shit difrent name but if u can go with amd64 s939 3500+ i'm thinking about changing to it also but just thinking

uhh, that's wrong. The new p4 steppings are only available for socket 775. Go for the 775 plattform and buy a E0 stepping cpu (that's important!). These cpu's have much better heat management and they do have the nx bit enabled. And the prescott doesn't dispense more heat than the original athlon's

How not? The original T-Bird was 73W, the prescotts dissipates around 103-110W and on a smaller die area. Also, the T-Bird was 0.18 micron tech, the prescotts are 90 nm (not sure, or is it 130nm?). Feel free to correct me if im wrong Smile

lol steping shmeping intel simply couldn't compete to amd 64 bit in time that's why they made 775 to like invent somthing new like Ati couldn't implement PS3.0 because they didn't knew how/i personaly ouw 9800Pr0n Rolling Eyes / x800xt was just 9800xt on steroids at least they managed to boost perfomance, on the other hand everything what did intel just changed socket # no more no less just nothing new exsept for the name/btw it do perform slower with DDR2 cause of CL4 & it also very expensive/ & still with friggin presscot core Evil or Very Mad ,for me it's all BS i'll wait till WinXP64 final comes out & P64bit procs then we will compare, now is too early to decide but if was doing upgrade now i would go with AMD64 cause of memory controller & low heat & maybe maybe Question huge advantage in WinXP64 comparing to p4 none 64 bit then we'll talk Wink

True, the original athlons had only a tdp of up to 72,1w (1,4ghz)

http://www.amd.com/us-en/assets/content_type/white_papers_and_tech_docs/23792.pdf

but the idle temp was much higher than today's p4 prescotts. I do remember that we did have some athlons 1ghz running at my old company i worked for and these cpu's were ideling at aroung 65c, the max was 80 to 90c. One reason for these high temperatures were the coolers. Just take one from two or three years ago and compare them to p4 cooler from now. They look like their little kids Smile

First of all i have to congrat the amd marketing department. marketing was one of my majors at college so i know what i am talking about. They really make amd peeps believe that 64bit is something like the holy grale and it will increase the speed like nothing else before. We had the 64bit discussion before, so please ELIZ explain to me how 64bit in general will increase speed? 64bit will increase the address space and has nothing to do with speed in the first place

And Intel did not bring the 775 to market as an answer to amd'd 64bit. In fact, prescott with 64bit enabled were deliverd to dell and hp before the new socket was even introduced to the market. The reason for the socket was a reduce in production costs ( you know that comapany's want to make profit Wink ), adn to reduce the return rate of defective cpu's. I have build up a lot of 775 systems and the socket works flawlessly. We even have some test boards at work there we test cpu's, and these boards have up to 100 cpu's changes at the moment and still work fine Smile

Well depending on what you're going to be using your pc. If your going to use it mostly for games, then buy an amd64(socket 939). If your buying it to do renders such as maya, lightwave or other heavy programs then get a pentium 4.

Hardware: Ryzen 3700x, B450 MSI Gaming Pro carbon AC, GTX1080, 32 GB 3200 Mhz cas 14, 256 EVO SSD, 1 TB EVO SSD and 4 TB HDD.
