I have modded 2 Wii's using this guide:http://www.wiihacks.com/recommended-faqs-guides-tutorials-only/60921-guide-softmod-any-wii.html

But i have a feeling some of it is updated as some file says 4.1 when the system was 4.3e.

For those who follow this, is this the newest or is there infact newer versions available?

That's the one I use, mate. Up to date and exceptionally easy to read and follow.

does it work? yes, well no problems then

its perfectly logical to me that you have 4.1 ios'es now as 4.3 was only a fw update with some retarded extra security which failed the day after release Very Happy

my wii's are all up to date and prefer to keep these on 4.1 also as 4.3 has no value added except the useless stub ios'es which have to be removed to enable homebrew/backup loading

Mine is still on 4.1E as well. Absolutely no reason to go any higher as Nintendo aren't Sony and don't require you to be on the latest firmware to play games.

If you ever come across a game that doesn't instantly work then the chances are someone in the torrent/NZB comments has already said how to get it working Very Happy

Honestly, once set up; the Wii is done for life pretty much. After playing Xenoblade lately, I'm tempted to keep my Wii... it's certainly a lot easier than struggling with temperamental emulation on a rig that can't QUITE keep up.

Also selling the Wii would be kinda pointless now...
With that price cut from Nintendo a new Wii is only like 150€, a used one wouldn't get you more than 100€. For that money, you can just keep the console, as the Derp-U will probably appeal to (even more) casual gamers than the Wii.

And there are some nice games coming for the Wii, including the new Zelda.

Disk? Have you made sure to install DarkCORP? You need that in order to read backup disks via the disk channel.

What confuses me is the ios249, 222, 250 etc. Gonna try the usb backup loader, but not sure which file to run and i'm unsure what happens if i run the wrong one.

That might be what it is, mate. Recent Wiis physically cannot read DVDRs. Your only option is to get a USB HDD and use a loader.

It's the better option anyway =) Why fuck around with burning disks that's going to cost you money and then deal with shitty performance as they run at half-speed (thanks to the anti-piracy apologist pricks) -- when you can simply convert ISO to scrubbed/shrunk WBFS and and stuff hundreds of games onto one HDD? Very Happy

Yep. Get wbfs manager 3.0. And fill your hdd with awesome games.

Some really cool games that I would not have tried if I had to go thru the trouble of burning to disk.

Heh, no worries =) Honestly... once you've had a HDD jam-packed with games, you'll never want to go back to optical media again.

Yup, only bad thing is that there doesn't seem to be a way for me to play gamecube games on it. Really want to play Zelda master quest.

You have to burn THOSE to a disk, I'm afraid. No USB loading for GC titles. Just burn to a standard DVD (make sure you DarkCORP FULL installed) and launch them from the Di...

........... and I just remembered that you can't run DVDRs on your new-model Wii Crying or Very sad Yup, renting/buying retail games is your only option. There IS a half-made piece of homebrew out there that lets you load GC ISOs from SD, but it's barely functional and only released as a proof of concept a few weeks ago.

Look on the not-so-dark side; GC games are VERY cheap these days. Just do an eBay or Amazon run =)

thing is, me and my friend tried it out, but the quality was horrible.. Sound was really bad, same with picture. He bought ocarina of time on virtual console so we know what kind of quality we should get.
